Payroll Staff Accountant

Compensation: $65,000 - $80,000


How do our Staff Accountants Drive Impact?

The Payroll Accountant is responsible for managing and overseeing the company's payroll and benefits accounting process and ensuring accuracy between the payroll process itself and the general ledger. This role ensures that the process of accounting for all payroll is audited and maintains compliance with remittance to various external vendors and banks. The Payroll Accountant works jointly with Total Rewards and the accounting teams to ensure accurate record-keeping and timely payroll processing.

1. General Ledger Processing and Management:

Responsible for mapping and translation of payroll data to the correct General Ledger structure

Timely posting of all Payroll files after weekly and semi-monthly payroll close

Work alongside Total Rewards team to ensure payroll data is reconciled through ADP

Partner with Dealership Accounting Controllers to manage posting of payroll to correct accounts

Perform month end PTO accrual and Worker’s Compensation postings

Payroll and Benefit Account Processing

Review and reconcile incoming deductions and employer contributions into centralized accounts

Manage invoices and payments for related benefits, taxes, and payroll expenses and remittances

Keep and maintain accurate records for audit and reconciliation purposes.

Reconciliation and Reporting:

Reconcile payroll data with general ledger accounts.

Assist in monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings for payroll-related accounts.

Prepare payroll reports for management, including labor costs, overtime, and other payroll metrics.

Assist with resolving payroll discrepancies and errors

Audit and Compliance:

Assist with internal and external payroll audits.

Ensure adherence to internal policies, as well as local, state, and federal laws related to payroll accounting



We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience as a Payroll Accountant with a minimum of 3 years of dedicated payroll experience or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll processing, tax regulations, and accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., ADP is preferred)
  • Extreme proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in data processing.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification in payroll (e.g., Certified Payroll Professional – CPP).
  • Experience with multi-state payroll processing.
  • Familiarity with human resources systems and employee benefits.
