Role Summary
This role manages an assigned book of business, focused on attaining profitable growth, persistency, and earnings. Performs case-specific risk assessments, rate development, and customer presentations on a complex book of business. Couples with management to develop and drive market and sales strategies, product development, pricing, and underwriting policy and procedure guidelines. This role manages and develops underwriters on risk analysis, rate development, and consultative underwriting responsibilities. Manages team functions such as presale and renewal book assignments. Ability to make effective decisions based on strong knowledge of all financial implications, both internal and external. Has thorough knowledge of factors that influence market and competitive conditions. Has strong knowledge of enterprise-wide objectives and ability to influence change across matrix partners.
Responsibilities
This position is a leadership role managing a portion of the book of business within the 50-3000 eligible employees space in the South Texas market, varying responsibilities across existing book of business and new business/prospecting depending on the market, month, business need, etc.
Responsible for achieving earnings, persistency, growth, service and expense objectives within designated marketplace.
Direct management responsibilities for 6-8 professional Underwriters, primarily geared towards less experienced Underwriters.
Support achievement of growth and earnings goals by ensuring case decisions align with emerging results.
Active part of the market leadership team working to understand the market landscape and developing/executing strategy for top- and bottom-line growth.
Support growth calls with assigned markets.
Assists in broker/ client development and handles high risk major impact negotiations directly.
Support talent management and pipeline.
Proven skills in understanding the 50-3000 eligible employees space, market and industry wide dynamics (consumers/ broker/consultant community/competitors) to set strategies and tactics to achieve both earnings and revenue growth objectives.
Qualifications
5+ of HealthCare Underwriting experience or other industry experience
Management experience in underwriting preferred
Experience in the financial, insurance or managed care industry or significant marketing and/or business development experience in another field.
Thorough knowledge of factors that influence market and competitive conditions.
Strong knowledge of enterprise-wide objectives and ability to influence change across matrix partners
Maintain and support direct client relationships
Ability to communicate analytical findings to all levels of the organization.
Ability to work well and influence within a cross-functional team
