Lead Commodity Buyer

Job Description Summary

As a commodity buyer you will be responsible for the sourcing & procurement activities associated for a set of suppliers and/or parts within a commodity. You will manage the buying process for hardware with responsibility to achieve the best contractual position, as measured through a total cost of ownership model, while also ensuring internal customer satisfaction.
You will collaborate with a cross functional team when negotiating with suppliers in accordance with Sourcing policies. This role is responsible for ownership of buying activity related to supplier procurements, including purchase orders, blanket orders, and limited contracts such as amendments, letters of intents, and risk releases. The role requires cross-functional partnership, process rigor and discipline to standard work within your respective supply base. The role has a major impact on overall GE profitability.

This role is open to a remote opportunity in Tennessee.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for achieving the best contractual conditions, while maintaining supplier relationships
  • Responsible for progressing the activities of supplier selection, proposals and quotes, quote analysis, negotiation, business approvals, supply award, and contract authoring
  • Owns and manages compliance in sourcing and procurement activities.
  • Responsible for supplier data set up & maintenance to enable contract management and fulfillment activities (I.e. lead time, material configuration, etc.)
  • Accountability for partnership with transactional operation partners (i.e. the Procurement Operations Center aka POC) who are performing procurement related activities on your supplier accounts
  • Accountable for purchase agreement (PA) health to ensure contracts are not running out of quantity, time and are renegotiated in accordance with Sourcing policies and guidelines
  • Actively maintains market awareness and an in depth understanding of key business drivers to inform supplier selection
  • Brings forward creative contractual solutions to promote contract performance / total cost of ownership
  • Forms and develops cross-functional teams to develop deal and negotiation strategy
  • Utilizes technical expertise, collaboration and judgement to solve problems
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience to provide coaching and training
  • Leads projects related to part procurement, or technical changes on parts requiring supplier engagement and support.
  • Explains information to bring team members to consensus around topics within field
  • Conveys performance expectations and may handle sensitive issues with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Role may require up to 10% travel

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or institution (or a high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years' experience in Commercial Operations, Sourcing/ Procurement, Supplier Relationship Management, Sales, Supply Chain or Contract Management roles)
  • Plus, a minimum of 3 years' experience in Commercial Operations, Sourcing/ Procurement, Supplier Relationship Management, Sales, Supply Chain or Contract Management roles
