We’re looking for a person with strong initiative, who will perform routine to complex inspection and testing of welding and steel construction materials in the field, in order to verify conformance to construction plans and specifications.  The ability and desire to expand your knowledge and skills into testing and inspection of additional materials is desired.  

  

The Special Inspector will interact daily with owner and contractor teams to inspect active work projects, will prepare daily reports and data sheets and may be called upon to perform various tasks to meet our client's project goals. 

 

This position requires the ability to: 

  • Bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds (22.68 kg) repetitively and over 50 pounds (22.68 kg) using handling equipment (hand truck, etc.). 
  • Operate heavy equipment as necessary (i.e., ultrasonic non-destructive testing machine, Skidmore etc.). 
  • Maintain safe mobility over construction obstacles by foot and ladder, traversing over rough broken ground and steep surfaces. 
  • Work outside in variable weather at field sites and in labs with various levels of safety protection required.  

  

While much of the work is local to the Office Area assigned, travel throughout Northern California will be required. 

 

The ideal candidate for this role of AWS CWI should have the following certifications or experience:  

 

 Skills 

  • Print reading 
  • Interpreting codes and specifications 
  • Report writing 
  • Inspecting structural welding to codes and specifications (example AWS D1.1, D1.8) 
  • Documenting defects 
  • Reviewing WPS & PQR 
  • Communicate effectively through documentation 
  • Perform non-destructive testing techniques (example MT/UT/PT) 
  • Track and monitor work to ensure compliance with various codes and standards 
  • Communicate with Clients and Project Managers effectively and in a timely manner 
  • Utilize Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel) 
  • Utilize an iPad for reporting, timekeeping, email, etc. 

 

Required Certifications - AWS CWI - NDT Level II in UT Desired Certifications - ICC Structural Steel & Bolting Special Inspector 

- NDT Level II in MT 

- NDT Level II in PT- TWIC card 

General knowledge of MS Office including Word and Excel preferred. Valid driver's license and clean driving record required. 

  

This position may require work on projects requiring full vaccination from COVID-19.  If that is the case, you will be required to show proof of vaccination or an acceptable exemption in order to work on the project. 

   

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree or equivalent desired.

Benefits: Kleinfelder offers an excellent compensation and benefits package, including: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k) plan, and paid holidays. The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the California Pay Scale Disclosure Law. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience. Salary range: $34.44 to $57.40 p/h
