Who we are & why we’re hiring

Twilio powers real-time business communications and data solutions that help companies and developers worldwide build better applications and customer experiences.

Although we're headquartered in San Francisco, we have presence throughout South America, Europe, Asia and Australia. We're on a journey to becoming a globally anti-racist, anti-oppressive, anti-bias company that actively opposes racism and all forms of oppression and bias. At Twilio, we support diversity, equity & inclusion wherever we do business. We employ thousands of Twilions worldwide, and we're looking for more builders, creators, and visionaries to help fuel our growth momentum.

About the job

Twilio is seeking a Senior Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion who will champion, promote, and continue to guide the Company’s inclusion strategy and diversity initiatives across our global footprint in a way that is unique and authentic to Twilio. This leader will report to the VP of Talent Experience and DEI, will act as the face of DEI and partner with the entire Executive Team. This role is integral to the company, our culture, and the experience of each and every Twilion every day.

We are seeking someone with a passion for building a globally diverse workforce and inclusive culture, curated and proven influence and leadership skills dedicated to continually improving the organization. Success in this role means we're building a company we're proud of, and we're the model of building a diverse and inclusive culture in the technology industry. You must believe a diverse team, from the top down, allows all employees to achieve their full potential and as a result will allow Twilio to reach our goals, collectively.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of driving diversity programs, and can build positive relationships internally and externally to promote Twilio. This is a crucial role, both to the company and leadership, to strengthen Twilio’s commitment to foster an open and diverse workplace. We are committed to building a diverse population, with a healthy, vibrant culture, ultimately enabling every Twilion to do great work, build a phenomenal career and feel they belong at Twilio.

We also hope you can:

  • Build upon our current Inclusion and Diversity foundation supporting and initiating new efforts towards achieving our future Diversity goals.
  • Bring your perspectives on DEI, as well as broad business experience, to the senior leadership of the company across myriad conversations.
  • Own the metrics for measuring the effectiveness of corporate DEI initiatives, prepare quarterly reports with insights and recommendations for the senior leadership team, as well as the annual report we proudly publish for the world.
  • Work arm and arm with the Sr. Leaders, Hiring Managers, and the Talent Acquisition to help build effective sourcing, selecting and progressive ways to develop our diverse community of talent.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and partner to HRBPs and the business by continuously analyzing and presenting talent demographics, monitoring data trends and providing insights into the data collected
  • Ensure effective Leadership, development, and coordination of Twilio’s Employee Resource Groups, ensuring their impact and effectiveness across the organization, and culture
  • Own external partnerships that help us achieve our DEI goals, such as technology platforms or sources of under-represented talent.
  • Ownership of global legislation in the field, partnering with our Employment Law team to ensure current and applicable legislation is applied to programs, tracking, data collection and practices embedded in our programs. groups, and professional development efforts)

What you need to Succeed

You are also:

  • 12+ years of overall experience and 5+ years of management experience and a subject matter expert on DEI.
  • A person with a proven track record of success in building programs, improving leadership capability, and knowledge across the organization in ways that enable a consistent, authentic, fair and equitable approach to diverse hiring and inclusivity. You demonstrate a proven ability to operationalize the DEI strategy into a concrete working plan.
  • A leader who builds high performing teams, and leads through influence.
  • Comfortable reviewing DEI research, and applying principles from relevant research in a business setting.
  • A builder with business experience. Background in the technology industry is a plus, but not required.
  • BS/BA degree or equivalent experience; MBA is a plus
