Principal Geotechnical Engineer

We currently have an opportunity for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer based at our Poitrel Mine on an flexible roster.  To support your development and growth you will have the ability to work at South Walker Creek.  

 As Principal Geotechnical Engineer you will:

  • Conduct geotechnical investigations, including field mapping, sampling, and laboratory testing, to assess ground conditions and identify potential hazards.
  • Monitor and analyse ground movements, slope stability, and rock mechanics using various instrumentation and geotechnical software.
  • Develop and implement geotechnical monitoring programs to ensure early detection of any geotechnical issues.
  • Provide geotechnical input and support for mine planning, design, risk management and operational decision-making.
  • Collaborate with the geology, mining, and operations teams to optimize pit design, slope angles, and overall mine stability.
  • Conduct regular inspections of high-risk areas and recommend appropriate remedial measures when required.
  • Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports and present findings and recommendations to management and stakeholders.
  • Support exploration planning and develop Geotechnical Pit Layouts
  • Coach and support other geotechnical engineers. 

To set you up for success, we expect you will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, engineering geology or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in geotechnical engineering with open cut coal mining operations is highly desirable.
  • Experience with Vulcan and geotechnical software, such as Rocscience, or GeoStudio.
  • RPEQ qualification or ability to obtain in geotechnical engineering is desirable (we will support you with this)
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
