Security Instructor

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop, revise and update the Nuclear Security training program (to include lesson plans, exam questions, etc.) through continuous evaluations and effectiveness reviews using the Systematic Approach to Training methodology.

  • Deliver training courses and supervise trainees in classroom, field, and firing range settings.

  • Prepare and maintain complete and accurate training records in compliance with station procedures and NRC requirements.

  • Hold and maintain certifications as a Firearms Instructor and Armorer to ensure safe range operation and weapons maintenance.

  • Remain capable to obtain certifications and maintain physical requirements as a fully qualified Nuclear Security Armed Responder/Armed Security Officer, Alarm Station Operator/RTL, or Supervisor and prepared to support the shifts in filling overtime in these posts.

  • Participate in the site’s Nuclear Emergency Response Organization (NERO) in an on-call status.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Demonstrated understanding of nuclear security operations, regulatory requirements, industry standards, security tactics, and weapons systems—either through successful completion of the SSES Security Officer Training Program or a minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience in nuclear security, military service, law enforcement, or a similarly regulated, high-security environment. Related education may substitute for up to four (4) years of the required experience.

  • Must meet unescorted access authorization (UAA) and fitness-for-duty requirements for a nuclear facility.

  • Ability to work irregular hours and extended shifts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or a related field

  • Firearms Instructor certification and/or other advanced security-related certifications; formal training in classroom instruction is a plus.

  • Demonstrated training experience.

  • Current or previous qualification and experience as an SSES Security Shift Supervisor or Response Team Leader.
