Performs skilled, administrative, and managerial support in research. Plans and directs certain phases in a research project.
Responsibilities:
- Assists in the design, planning, and coordinating of experiments in support of various field crop (e.g. corn) based research projects.
- Independently plant, manage, measure and harvest corn field research populations
- Appropriately use tractors, sprayers, combines and other farm equipment to complete research projects.
- Selects and applies standard techniques of routine research and keeps detailed records of data.
- Uses computers and technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of research experiments and results.
- Evaluates and summarizes results.
- Assists undergraduate and/or graduate students and other technical or field staff involved in research.
- Installs, operates, maintains, and/or repairs field research equipment (e.g. planters, combines).
- Assists and coordinate the ordering of supplies
- Assists with reports, invoices, and cataloging records.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
-Bachelor degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience – preferably in agriculture, environmental science, or engineering
Preferred Licenses:
-Ability to obtain and maintain a certified applicator license for research
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-Good communication skills
-Skills in basic computer and data handling procedures
-Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Basic knowledge of biological sciences related to the processes, methods, and procedures of assigned tasks
- Basic knowledge of agronomy
- Basic knowledge of farm machinery, equipment
- Ability to operate farm machinery and equipment
- Knowledge of pesticide application procedures.
