The EKG technician has a working knowledge and skills of adult (ages 18-65), geriatric (ages 66 and over), neonatal (birth to 12 months), and occasionally adolescent (ages 12-18) electrocardiography. The EKG TECH presents a pleasing and helpful manner to the patient, physicians, visitors, members of the department, and all other medical personnel. The EKG TECH exhibits courteous behavior when addressing the general public and outside hospital related agencies. The EKG TECH supports and contributes to departmental and hospital objectives by functioning as a technician in patient testing. The EKG TECH complies with local, state, and federal rules and regulations, and the requirements of accrediting bodies. The EKG TECH adheres to established policies and procedures of the department and the hospital.
1. Performs EKG.
2. Utilizes EKG computer system.
3. Places Holter monitor.
4. Scans Holter tracing.
5. Places Event monitor.
6. Performs patient assessment.
7. Performs quality control.
8. Assists in cardiac and pulmonary stress testing.
9. Performs equipment cleaning and maintenance.
10. Provides patient, family, hospital staff, and physician education.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education / Accreditation / Licensure (required & preferred):
• High School Diploma or GED• BLS
