Install Apprentice

👋 I’m Tommy, and I’m the CEO of A1 Garage Door. I’m glad you’re here.  

I started the company in 2007, and we have since grown to cover almost half the United States. Our vision is to become America’s largest and most trusted garage door company.  

We are looking for high performers to join us. The Installer job is physically demanding. Stamina and enthusiasm are required! 

You don’t need to have experience with garage doors. Our team will train you on everything you need to know (including the customer experience, the key to our success), so you can thrive in your very own market.

You Shouldn’t Apply If:  

  • You prefer working where there are no customers to talk to  

  • You think that manual labor is for other people  

  • You’re not weather resistant (hot/cold depending on geography)   

  • You’re not likely to follow what you were taught in class and apply it with gusto  

    

The Job: 

  • Install new garage doors for residential customers 

  • Remove existing door and mechanical parts  

  • Replace worn or broken door parts using tools 

  • Assemble mechanical parts  

  • Install springs, sections, slats, and hardware 

  • Run wiring to connect equipment 

  • Lubricate and test mechanical parts for proper functioning 

  • Educate customers on upgraded parts and services and ensure satisfaction 

  • Document activities related to installations 

 

Basic Requirements:   

  • Be nice! I know, we shouldn’t have to say that, but we mean it 

  • Able to bend, climb, kneel and stand for long periods  

  • Physically able to lift 75lbs, lift garage door panels above head 

  • Able to stand on ladder 

  • Basic knowledge of hand tools (Power drill, hammer, saw etc) 

  • Valid driver’s license for at least 3 years with a clean driving record 

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test (not including THC) and criminal background check 

  • Knowledge of basic software such as navigation apps, Google etc as well as tablet and computer use  

  • GED or HS diploma not required, however reading skills as well as basic math skills (measurements, payments) are required   

  • Professional & approachable appearance 

  • Employment requires current eligibility to legally work in the United States 

  

The Journey of an Installer:  

  • Apprenticeship starts in your local market where you will be paired with a technician for 3-6 weeks and you get to learn the ins and outs of the job. 

  • After a successful apprenticeship, you will finish your training at our A1 Training Academy in Phoenix, AZ. 

  • A1 covers flights and accommodations for the duration of your training in Phoenix. (Also, all apprenticeship/training weeks are paid at $1,000/week)  

  • During the 4 week training, you will build upon the skills that you have acquired during apprenticeship. 

  • Once you complete training, you will graduate to a junior technician. You will perform your duties as a technician in the market you chose to work in. Boom!  

  

Pay, benefits, other cool stuff:  

  • Get your very own A1 wrapped van or truck with a gas card.  

  • Tools provided! 

  • Steady job flow to keep you busy  

  • Medical, dental, vision, 401K  

  • Starting pay $35/hour (Piece Rate) + commission on additional sales/services 

  • Weekly pay 

  • $1,000 bonus at completion of apprenticeship, $1,000 bonus at completion of Training Academy in Phoenix (in addition to weekly pay) 

   

Interview Process:   

Our interview process is not long, but it’s thorough. We want to make sure that each person who joins the team is the right fit for A1. And that we are the right fit for you! 

  1. After we review your application, you will be contacted for an interview with a recruiter if we want to know more. Plan on up to 45 minutes.  

  1. Next step is an interview with the Area manager. Plan on approximately 30 minutes.  

  1. Next step is when the fun begins: you will be invited to ride along with one of our technicians so you can see what life at A1 is really like. Plan on ½ day.
