Automation and Assay Research Scientist

About the Role

Culmen International is looking for an Automation and Assay Research Scientist to support a USAMRIID program at Fort Detrick, MD.

 

The Automation and Assay Research Scientist supports laboratory automation projects, assisting with integration of robotic systems and assay optimization for screening biological samples.

What You’ll Do in Your New Role

  • Implement and validate automated assay platforms.
  • Program and maintain liquid handling instruments.
  • Assist in transitioning manual protocols to high-throughput systems.
  • Analyze data output and troubleshoot protocols.
  • Contribute to process documentation and quality control.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biotechnology, engineering, or biological sciences.
  • 2+ years in assay development or automation engineering.
  • Experience with robotics and automated platforms (e.g., Tecan, Hamilton).
  • Familiarity with assay validation and QC metrics.
  • Basic scripting or instrument control knowledge.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance and enroll in the Personnel Reliability Program (PRP), if required.
