Role Overview
Homebound is expanding to Los Angeles to support families rebuilding after recent wildfires. We’re seeking a Purchasing Manager with deep expertise in construction purchasing to lead this initiative and ensure we deliver high-quality, efficient homes that meet Homebound’s design standards and support our mission of helping communities recover and rebuild.

This role is critical in establishing Homebound’s presence in the Los Angeles area, where urgency, empathy, and excellence in execution are essential. The ideal candidate has a strong command of trade and commodity negotiations, local vendor relationships, and cost modeling, with a proven ability to bring structure and scalability to procurement operations in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Candidates must be based in the Los Angeles, CA area to be considered for this role.

What You'll Do

  • Own the end-to-end RFP and buyout process, from plan review through ERP system integration

  • Analyze bids using takeoffs, pricing models, and bid leveling tools to drive competitive pricing

  • Develop and refine proformas for fire-rebuild communities, adjusting for spec levels and evolving market conditions

  • Create pricing models for standard plans and custom BOOL designs

  • Track and benchmark trade costs to assess financial risk and support financial reporting

  • Partner with the Network Team to establish strong trade, supplier, and manufacturer relationships across Los Angeles and surrounding areas
    Work closely with the design team to advise on feasible spec levels and materials for fire-rebuild scenarios

  • Contribute to procurement process improvements and support the development of internal procurement software

  • Collaborate with Construction to support starts, maintain budgets, and ensure accurate purchase orders

  • Negotiate contracts, manage vendor relationships, and ensure material availability for timely project completion

  • Oversee purchasing logistics from order placement through delivery, ensuring alignment with rebuild timelines

  • Conduct variance analyses and manage job costs, unit pricing, and margin tracking

  • Stay informed of industry innovations, building code updates, and market shifts affecting rebuild efforts

What You'll Bring

  • 6+ years of experience in homebuilding or construction purchasing, including team leadership

  • Based in Los Angeles with strong knowledge of the local construction landscape and vendor network

  • Experience in cost estimation, scope development, budget creation, and trade partner coordination

  • Proficiency in Planswift or similar takeoff software

  • Strong Excel and pricing model skills

  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and project management abilities

  • Familiarity with rebuilding processes and requirements, including structural and civil needs unique to post-disaster construction

  • Ability to identify value engineering opportunities and assess construction risks

  • Proven ability to manage unit costs and maintain accurate historical pricing data

  • Experience conducting post-close job reviews and variance analysis
