Engineering Intern - Summer Internship

Hydrosat is a deep-tech company leveraging the unique capabilities of thermal imagery from space to measure water stress in agriculture and mitigate the effects of climate change. Our mission is to improve water productivity, enhance food security, protect public safety, and preserve the environment. By transforming advanced data into actionable insights, we empower our customers to make informed decisions that drive sustainability and resilience.

We are seeking a summer intern to perform testing on imaging systems representative of ones that Hydrosat has on orbit as well as support prototype development and testing of next generation imaging payloads. Working closely with the Hydrosat payload engineering team, this role involves analyzing payloads, designing experiments, building test setups and running experiments to gather valuable imaging data to validate sensor performance.  This position will be closely paired with a senior member of the engineering team to provide mentorship and guidance while performing the duties and responsibilities required to complete the experiments and prototype hardware build activities. 

What You’ll Do

  • Review the performance specifications for the payload units
  • Design tests that will allow data to be captured that covers the range of test scenarios provided by the engineering team
  • Build the test stations with the support of the engineering team
  • Execute tests for payloads.  Testing may require limited travel to local test sites
  • Process or reduce the data and work with the engineering team to analyze it
  • Prepare reports that outline the problem statement, methodology, test execution strategy, and the results
  • Support the assembly and test of concept designs for validation
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required
  • Undergraduate with college credit earned in a STEM field (engineering, physics, etc.)
  • Experience with CAD software such as Solidworks or equivalent
  • Familiarity with standard lab and hand tools
  • Ability to work flexible hours to cover the range of test cases as required (some test cases may require nighttime imaging)
  • Experience with Python or Matlab preferred
  • Familiarity with image capture and image processing preferred
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
