Head of Design

About Limitless 👋

At Limitless, our vision is to free the human mind from its biological limitations. We are starting with memory. 90% of memories are forgotten after just a week. Not only that, but our memory gets worse as we get older. If there is a hearing aid for hearing and glasses for vision then why isn’t there the equivalent for memory? That question is why we started the company. We build software and hardware to capture what you see, say, and hear and make it useful.

The products we have today are just the first step toward our audacious vision.

We have raised over $33m from top-tier investors including Sam Altman, First Round Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, and NEA to help make that vision a reality.

Why Limitless 👀

The work you’ll do will have tremendous impact on not just our company, but on society as a whole. We believe the best version of the future is one in which we augment - not replace - human intelligence with artificial intelligence. This is the key to unlocking humanity’s full potential, and you will play a critical role in helping us get there. Join us.

What kind of design leader do we need? 🤔

We believe the best products in the world are well designed. As our Head of Design, you will report directly to Dan, our CEO, and serve as a true peer to all the other leaders at the company including engineering. This is a rare chance to not only lead design, but serve as a leader in a company where design matters.

There are many types of design leaders, so to clarify what we’re looking for, here’s how we see our ideal fit:

  • Builder > Delegator: You will start off as a team of one and will grow a world class design team over time.

  • Iteration > Perfection: You believe the best designs emerge through iteration and refinement, prioritizing learning from real users over chasing theoretical perfection.

  • Generalist > Specialist: You are excited about all aspects of design, not just one particular design discipline.

What will be your outcome ✅

You will be responsible for design across all of Limitless—from product to brand to marketing. Your success will be measured by:

  • Creating great product designs that are truly delightful to users and also pragmatic for our engineering team to implement.

  • Rapidly iterating on our product experience based on user insights.

  • Recruiting, mentoring, and leading a world-class design team, setting a high bar for craft and execution.

What will help you be successful 👏

  • 10+ years of product design experience.

  • A master of your craft.

  • Excellent prioritization skills and able to embody the mantra that the main thing is that the main thing stays the main thing.

  • A portfolio of product design work featuring excellent visual, UI and interaction design for products, including websites and mobile apps.

  • Experience shipping real products to huge audiences in a fast-paced, iterative environment.

  • Experience working closely with engineers, user research, and marketing.

  • The following are not strictly required, but very nice to have:

    • Experience with Linear and Figma.

    • Experience building products that utilize LLMs.

    • Experience coding.

What cultural values you need to embody 💥

  • ✅ Decisive: Bias for action and learning.

  • 🧠 Resourceful: Prioritize well in order to maximize impact with the least effort.

  • 📈 Craft: Good judgement & consideration when deciding something is done enough.

  • ✋ Candor: Give candid feedback, receive it well, and speak up if you disagree.

  • 🗣️ Communication: Be transparent, create clarity out of ambiguity, and do it with zest.

  • 🙏 Collaboration: Help each other out, have empathy, and listen well.

Benefits 💯

  • Health insurance: best-in-class healthcare for employees and dependents. Includes vision and dental.

  • Top-of-market compensation: we strive to offer top-of-market salary and equity.

  • Flexible vacation: we want you to take the time you need to rest and relax.

  • Employee-friendly equity terms: we offer an extended exercise window and early exercise for any options offered.

  • Sell equity along the way: Unlike most startups, we don’t believe in holding you captive with golden handcuffs. When there are opportunities for you to sell a portion of your vested stock, we offer them.

  • Remote first: we have team members all over the U.S. and everyone is treated equally regardless of location.

  • 401(k) plan: for US employees we offer a 401(k) plan with company matching.

  • Office reimbursement: prefer working from an office? We provide a WeWork membership or reimbursement.

  • Parental leave: we offer all parents 12 weeks of paid time off to spend time with their new family.

  • Quarterly retreats: we have offsites quarterly to bring everyone together. Past retreats include Seattle, Breckenridge, Calistoga & Mexico.

  • Final week of the year off: Enjoy the final week of the year off while we all take time to recharge.

  • Choose your gear: we equip everyone with a new top-of-the-line laptop with all the upgrades.

$275,000-$275,000 a year

Your salary will be $275,000 per year and you will get 919,776 options (0.75%).

Your annual compensation (including equity) is as follows:

  • Our last valuation: $830,181

  • 10x increase in valuation: $6,898,363

  • 100x increase in valuation: $62,580,181

If you're interested in this job, we strongly encourage you to apply: we'd love to see you on our team working toward our audacious vision of freeing the mind from its biological limitations.
