Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a full-time Program Officer 2 for the Washoe County Extension office’s Nutrition Team. ***This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding. 

The major purpose of this job is to administer, supervise, plan and help evaluate the nutrition and physical activity workplan as directed by the Federal Nutrition Grants Administrator and Extension Nutrition Specialists.  The successful candidate will oversee and coordinate the Washoe Extension nutrition community-based instructors, a team of talented staff and available resources, to provide evidence-based nutrition and physical activity education and support the policy, systems and environmental changes that promote sustainable healthy lifestyle practices across multiple target audiences (e.g. early childhood, school-aged children, adults) identified through needs assessments, grant priorities, and Extension faculty.  The incumbent will provide direct supervision, training, education, evaluation, recommendations and resources to ensure achievement of strategy-specific SNAP-Ed objectives, including fiscal management, reporting requirements and planning for future grants.  The incumbent will provide similar support to subawards and/or contractors in the northern area receiving SNAP-Ed funding through UNR Extension.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, or other discipline related to the program assignment and one year of professional experience in planning, coordinating and administering a program which included interpretation of laws and regulations; development of program policy and procedures; development and implementation of program performance standards and objectives for providing services; and development and implementation of eligibility requirements;

  • OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of professional experience as described above;

  • OR one year of experience as a Program Officer I in Nevada State service;

  • OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

  • This position requires candidates to complete a fingerprinting/background check.

A valid Class “C” driver’s license or higher operator’s license within 30 days of appointment.

Food Handler Safety Training Certificate

Preferred Qualifications

  • Candidates with education or experience related to nutrition, physical activity, or public health, experience in program management, grant administration, and supervising staff, strong knowledge of evidence-based nutrition and/or physical activity education strategies and data management, collection, and cleaning, proven ability to foster partnerships and collaborate with diverse stakeholders, excellent organizational, communication, and analytical skills are encouraged to apply.

Schedule

The typical work schedule is 40 hours per week and variable; this is subject to change based on organizational needs. Occasional travel throughout assigned area.

Compensation

Grade 33 (Entry, Step 01 $28.38/hr)

In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate’s qualifications, internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
