Cell Engineer

About the Job:

The Cell Engineer will play a critical role in our lab, focusing on the assembly, testing, and analysis of R&D cells, including pouch and coin cells. In addition to hands-on work with cell development, the engineer will contribute to the design, setup, and optimization of our lab infrastructure to support advanced battery research. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and optimize slurry preparation and calendaring processes 
  • Assemble and fabricate R&D cells, including pouch and coin cells, using established protocols and innovative techniques. 
  • Perform electrochemical testing and analysis to evaluate cell performance, including capacity, cycling, impedance, and other critical parameters. 
  • Develop and optimize cell assembly processes to improve consistency and performance. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement improvements in cell design and manufacturing processes. 
  • Design and maintain lab infrastructure, including the selection and setup of specialized equipment for cell assembly and testing. 
  • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of experiments, test results, and lab procedures. 
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and laboratory best practices. 
  • Stay updated on advancements in battery technologies and recommend the integration of new methods and tools into the lab. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. 
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in battery R&D or cell engineering. 
  • Proficiency in cell assembly techniques, including handling of electrode materials, electrolyte preparation, and cell sealing. 
  • Familiarity with electrochemical testing methods, such as galvanostatic cycling, EIS, and CV. 
  • Experience with lab equipment, such as glove boxes, roll presses, vacuum sealers, and battery testers. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Extensive knowledge and prior experience in the slurry preparation and calendaring processes 
  • Experience in lab setup and development, including equipment procurement and layout planning. 
  • Knowledge of advanced battery chemistry and materials. 
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools and software for interpreting test results.
