3DGen - Technical Artist

We are looking for a Mid Level Technical Artist who is passionate about solving complex 3D game development challenges and exploring the potential of AI-driven tools.

In this role, you will split time between supporting multiple game teams in active development (embedding with them to solve daily technical art hurdles) and feeding those insights back to our central Core Tech group to help steer our future tooling and pipeline roadmaps. You’ll be key in bridging the gap between powerful platform-level tools and the unique needs of each game team, ensuring new technologies, AI-enabled workflows, and performance optimizations are implemented seamlessly.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the technical art liaison for several game teams, integrating the latest tools, pipelines, and workflows into Unity for a variety of 3D assets (characters, environments, VFX, etc.).

  • Train artists and engineers on newly developed platform tools, offering hands-on support, demos, and documentation to ensure seamless adoption.

  • Troubleshoot day-to-day issues related to 3D asset creation, environment building or world generation, shader development, and performance.

  • Gather requirements from embedded game teams and relay critical feedback on workflows, tool ease-of-use, and performance benchmarks back to Core Tech.

  • Provide training, guidance, and documentation to artists and engineers—serving as a trusted resource for best practices, especially when working with generative AI or other advanced toolkits.

  • Stay current on generative AI and other emerging technologies, exploring ways to streamline art pipelines, speed up prototyping, and push the boundaries of game development efficiency.

  • Document, refine, and share knowledge—ensuring that innovative solutions and lessons learned become best practices for the studio.

  • Collaborate closely with engineering and design to maintain compatibility, optimize performance, and ensure that new features or game-specific requirements are properly supported.

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of professional experience in a Technical Artist role or similar capacity in the gaming industry.

  • Comfortable with 3D content creation and integration in Unity—familiarity with model import, material setup, scene organization, and basic asset optimization.

  • Knowledgeable about performance needs in a real-time environment, with some exposure to benchmarking, profiling, and optimization strategies.

  • Some familiarity with AI-driven art workflows; willingness to learn and explore emerging generative AI tools.

  • Detail-oriented, proactive, creative problem-solver who can handle multiple ongoing projects and adapt quickly to evolving requirements.

  • Strong communication skills—able to break down complex processes and share knowledge across art, engineering, and production teams.

  • Eager to learn, experiment, and contribute to a collaborative environment where cross-functional input is vital to success.

Pluses:

  • Experience scripting pipeline tools (e.g., Python, C#) to automate repetitive tasks and streamline asset production.

  • Familiarity with shader creation or VFX tools, either node-based or code-driven.

  • Background in environment creation or world generation, including terrain sculpting, environment set dressing, or procedural world-building.

  • Background or interest in 3D character customization, rigging, or animation.

  • Previous hands-on experience with generative AI art tools or methods (e.g., text-to-image, material generation, terrain creation).

  • Hands-on knowledge of generative AI platforms (ComfyUI, A1111, or similar) for 2D or 3D workflows.

  • Experience shipping a mobile title or other live game project with rapid iteration cycles.
