About the Team

The Data Platform team maximizes the productivity of our data teams by balancing safety with flexibility, supporting data discovery, and giving our scientists and engineers access to best in class data tooling.

  • Our infrastructure is 100% AWS
  • We make heavy use of Spark to process and transform data
  • We use several Trino clusters for ad-hoc queries and analysis
  • Our Kafka based logging pipeline collects messages from applications broadly used throughout Stitch Fix as well as our internal applications
  • Using EMR and EKS, we run thousands of batch jobs each night, running training jobs for hundreds of models that feed our recommendation engines and other data driven APIs
  • We use the Hive Metastore to manage schemas, data locations, and versions.
  • We write most of our code in Python, Go, Scala, and Java.

Over the next year our focus will be on:

  • Building a generalized semantic layer to support the company’s AI goals
  • Building sensible frameworks to better support real-time streaming data ingestion using Kafka and Flink
  • Migrating to Iceberg as the standard format for our data tables
  • Adding role based access controls throughout our data stack

About the Role

In this role, you will be developing, monitoring and improving our services, libraries and tools that operate on our data.

  • This is an individual contributor role on the Data Platform team, part of the larger Data and Business team in our tech organization
  • You’ll have opportunities to work on high impact projects that improve data availability and quality, and provide reliable access to data for the analytics division and the rest of the business
  • You will help make our infrastructure more scalable, more reliable, and easier to use
  • You will be researching and implementing cutting-edge AI analytical technologies built on graphRAG and graph dbs.

  • Create services and tools to help make the experience better for our data scientists, and create the abstractions they need to effectively use our data ecosystem
  • Utilize your knowledge of modern AI data stacks to turbocharge our analytics platform
  • Help us improve our Spark and Trino deployments to function well under load
  • Build services to ingest data into our warehouse and ensure it’s clean and consistent
  • Work on core pipelines that provide data lineage information as well as make sure that our data warehouse is GDPR compliant
  • Help enhance our Spark infrastructure and help develop libraries that improve the reading and writing of data and enhance user capabilities with UDFs.
  • Provide ETL patterns that others can follow, abstractions to make working with data easier, and consult with other team members to create new data pipelines and improve them.

  • You have 4 or more years of relevant project experience with significant contributions.
  • You’ve built and maintained cutting-edge AI data infrastructure, bonus for working with graph DBs, knowledge graphs, or GraphRAG like systems.
  • You have exceptional coding and design skills, particularly in Go, Python, Scala or Java.
  • You’ve supported Spark clusters. You know how to take advantage of Spark APIs as well as write SQL.
  • You’ve worked with streaming data and related technologies such as Kafka and Flink
  • You work autonomously and take ownership of projects.
  • You understand how big data infrastructure works in the public cloud.
  • You are naturally curious and get excited to dig in and understand how things work.

Compensation and Benefits

This role will receive a competitive salary, benefits, and equity. The salary for US-based employees hired into this role will be aligned with the range below, which includes our three geographic areas. A variety of factors are considered when determining someone’s compensation–including a candidate’s professional background, experience, location, and performance.This position is eligible for new hire and ongoing grants of restricted stock units depending on employee and company performance. Salary Range
$187,700$276,000 USD
