The City of Fort Worth is seeking a Consumer Health Specialist to join their Environmental Health Services Department, focusing on improving consumer and environmental health across the city. The ideal candidate will be involved in work ranging from health inspections to conducting educational programs.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct health inspections of food establishments, childcare centers, public swimming pools, food trucks, hotels, and temporary events.
  • Investigate suspected foodborne illnesses and other complaints filed by the general public regarding consumer or environmental health issues.
  • Review building plans and conduct plans examinations of new and remodeled food establishments, child care facilities, public swimming pools, hotels, and food trucks.
  • Issue citations or permit suspensions when necessary.
  • Conduct consumer and environmental health education programs to the public regarding proper food handling, illness prevention and sanitation.
  • Organize and coordinate special event assignments, including scheduling and interagency coordination.
  • Participate in the mosquito surveillance program to help prevent the spread of West Nile Virus.
