This role is part of Enterprise Technology (ET), where we’re developing the digital infrastructure needed to build the road to space, with an emphasis on digital capabilities required to advance Blue Origin’s mission. Enterprise Technology is the center of excellence for digital technology at Blue Origin, providing oversight and governance to align technology and business strategies.

We are seeking a software engineer to join Blue Origin’s Warehouse and Inventory Technology team. This team’s systems track the hundreds of thousands of parts that go into our rockets, they are used by thousands of users and are a critical input to Blue Origin’s fast-moving manufacturing goals!

We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating extensively with other engineers to deliver new features from our ambitious roadmap.
  • Implementing new features using backend and frontend programing languages such as Java, Python, JavaScript and React.
  • Integrating with AWS products such DynamoDB, RDS, SQS, SNS and many others!
  • Utilizing modern technical design patterns and frameworks such as GraphQL, REST APIs and messages queues.
  • Participating in code reviews and helping your peers write high-quality code.
  • Communicating ideas through words, diagrams, and code with internal team members.
  • Diagnosing and resolving issues within existing software and addressing technical challenges that arise.

The ideal candidate will possess a background in software development and a passion for innovation in aerospace.

The position is a part of the Enterprise Technology (ET) organization, where we develop the digital infrastructure required to build the road to space and advance Blue Origin’s mission. Enterprise Technology serves as the center of excellence for digital technology at Blue Origin, providing oversight and governance to align technology with business strategies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience writing software and deploying it to production environments.
  • Proficiency in at least one object-oriented programming language (e.g., Java or C++).
  • Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals such as algorithms and common data structures.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering new software features.
  • Ability to solve problems by writing efficient, working code given clear requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion,
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for solving complex technical challenges.
  • A passion for space exploration and a commitment to Blue Origin’s mission.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Any experience with manufacturing, the aerospace or the defense industry.
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies.
  • Some experience with:
    • iOS, Android or React Native app development.
    • HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frameworks like React.
    • Continuous integration/continuous deployment strategies.
    • Relational or non-relational databases.

Background Check

  • Required for all positions: Blue’s Standard Background Check

  • Required for Certain Job Profiles:  Defense Biometric Identification System (DIBDS) background check if at any time the role requires one to be on a military installation

  • Required for Certain Job Profiles: Drivers who operate Commercial Motor Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or combination of power unit and trailer that meets or exceeds 10,001 lbs. and/or transports placardable amounts of hazardous materials by ground in any vehicle on a public road while in commerce, may be subject to additional Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including: Driver Qualification Files, Medical Certification, Road Test, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing (CDL drivers only), vehicle inspection requirements, CDL requirements (if applicable) and hazardous materials transportation/shipping training.

  • Paid Time Off:  Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays.

  • Discretionary bonus: Bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
