About The Role

The Mechanical estimator is a critical role at Ernest that operates remotely and works across all markets. Estimators at Ernest are proven leaders who work alongside the lead estimator and play a critical role in our growth by managing the bidding of timely, accurate and comprehensive mechanical estimates for multifamily, commercial, industrial, and federal projects.

What You'll Do

  • Manage the estimating process from end-to-end, including deadlines and estimating packages

  • Read and comprehend all contract documents including specifications, project scopes, drawings and standards to prepare accurate project cost estimates

  • Accurately take off material quantities from drawings to develop material and labor pricing

  • Assemble scoped RFP’s for vendors and subcontractors to obtain pricing. Analyze, compare and select best value vendor and subcontractor proposals for inclusion in cost estimates

  • Prepare and present completed estimating packages to company executives and senior management.

  • Attend post-bid review and project kick-off meetings with the owner as needed

  • A motivated problem solver with a focus on customer service and 5+ years of relevant mechanical estimating experience

  • Someone who thrives in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment with tight deadlines

  • Excellent communicator who is comfortable around higher management while being organized, detail-oriented and efficient

  • Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback in order to improve their own skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and estimating software (Fast Pipe and Fast Duct preferred)
