Job Description Hilo Benioff Medical Center is seeking a Director of Nursing position to provide oversight for the Intensive Care Unit and Respiratory Therapy department. As part of the Nursing Administration leadership team, the Director of ICU and Respiratory Services is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the general nursing and respiratory care and treatment services of the acute facility and for the resulting outcomes of those departments. This position is also responsible for planning and/or implementing programs and providing consultative and advisory services in methods of preparing and maintaining standards of nursing and respiratory care for the facility. Major Duties & Responsibilities Defines the overall philosophy and objectives of the ICU and Respiratory Services in accordance with those of the facility and interprets it to the staff. Aligns nursing and respiratory therapy services staff and colleagues within other departments with the facility's nursing practices and the mission, values and vision of the East Hawaii Region Works with quality department, management, senior management and medical staff to develop and implement strategic plans, ensuring outstanding patient satisfaction In collaboration the Acute Medical Director, Chief Quality Officer and Patient Experience Director, develops and implements strategies to ensure outstanding patient satisfaction and is responsible for the resulting outcomes. Collaborates and partners with the Chief Medical Officer, Intensivist and other physicians regarding clinical aspects of patient care and continuing quality improvement and implementation of patient care Reviews patient census and acuity reports and plans staffing accordingly for both ICU and Respiratory Departments Responsible for regularly rounding on leadership team, employees and patients; requires direct reports to do the same Organizes each department to maintain efficiency in operation and coordinates resources to accomplish overarching organization and unit specific patient care objectives Establishes staffing requirements and policies for nursing and respiratory recruitment, selection, training, retention and placement of qualified personnel Encourages evidence-based practices and nursing research, including implementation of improved methods of patient care Participates in planning, decision making, budgeting and policy formulation for assigned units Establishes and maintains clinical and administrative records and reports, as required Fosters and promotes a patient-centered, culturally competent, customer service focused atmosphere on behalf of the department and/or organization Participates in and actively promotes the East Hawaii Region's organizational effectiveness and excellence by fostering individual and team development through the Go Malama Management Model Contributes to hospital committees and serves as a consultant to other departments, as requested Takes a lead role in emergency management preparations Coordinates and participates in hospital projects, public relations initiatives and community educational health programs Job Requirements Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited university (Master's degree preferred), as demonstrated by the possession of a license to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Hawaii. Evidence of continuing education should be demonstrated, including coursework in nursing administration. Experience: Seven (7) or more years of nursing experience with sufficient previous nursing administration experience in a hospital or clinic environment. A minimum of three (3) years of experience must be in a leadership position. Certification: Professional Certifications highly preferred. Licensure: Possession of a license to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Hawaii.
