Job Title: Media Relations Manager

General Function:
This role is responsible for managing Hy-Vee’s brand image by building external media relationships. Works closely with senior staff in the communications department, and key leadership to align messaging that is consistent and best positions the company. Provides public relations counsel and drafts communications strategy and plans, overseeing their successful execution. Serves as one of the primary contacts for media.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
· Serves one of the primary media liaisons for the company.
· Coordinates media interviews and story placement in local, regional and national outlets.
· Responds to media inquiries, both mainstream and trade media.
· Works to provide media coverage reports.
· Serves as one of the key writers for the communications department.
· Provides public relations counsel/strategy on company projects and issues.
· Drafts public relations/communications plans for both external and internal projects and events.
· Writes communication materials, including press releases, media advisories, talking points, media statements, speeches, presentations, flyers, booklets, etc.
· Coordinates and staffs media/community relations events, such as new store openings, store and community events, press conferences, etc.
· Performs other job-related duties and special projects, as required.

Education and Experience:
· 5+ years of previous related work experience.
· Degree in journalism, communications, public relations or a related discipline required.
Physical Requirements:
· Visual requirements include the ability to see detail at near range with or without correction.
· Must be physically able to perform sedentary work: occasionally lifting or carrying objects of no more than 10 pounds and occasionally standing or walking.
· Must be able to perform the following physical activities: stooping, kneeling, reaching, handling, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.
