Rehabilitation Services at Northwestern Medicine is a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team within our growing, nationally recognized health system that provides world-class care at 10 hospitals and more than 200 locations in communities throughout Chicago, the suburbs and northern Illinois. Job Description

The Rehab Services Tech reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

This position is a non-licensed staff member who assists the professional staff with patient care as defined by those activities that do not require the clinical decision making. This staff member assists the business office with clerical and maintenance duties and selected tasks related to the operation of the Rehabilitation Services Department.

Responsibilities:

  • Follows standard precautions and Northwestern Medicine infection control policies and procedures consistently.
  • Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly, cleans equipment according to standards.
  • Independently maintains all equipment cleaning logs and performs monthly maintenance.
  • Ensures EOC meets JCAHO standards at all times.
  • Demonstrates competence in performing tasks identified as appropriate treatment for the Rehab Services Tech. Treats patients under direct clinical supervision and anticipates therapist’s needs during patient care.
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate promptly to the therapist any observed changes in patient status and responses (e.g. pain, changes in condition, distress). Clarifies with the therapist any special procedures or observations necessary.
  • Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care under the discretion of the therapist. Provides explanation to patient and family prior to administering care to patients; answers questions within scope of practice.
  • Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
  • Follows all policy and procedures for documentation of treatment appropriately rendered by the rehab tech.
  • Communicates with patients and guests including greeting them upon arrival, confirming identity and providing necessary information related to their visit.
  • Provides accurate information and timely updates to patients and customers.
  • Schedules, confirms, and reschedules patients for visits at Rehabilitation Services and its satellite locations.
  • Additional responsibilities may include:
    • Obtains patient consents/authorizations.
    • Manages department specific Rehabilitation Services Call List and communication needs.
    • Accurately identifies patient medical record number to avoid duplication of records in system. Obtains and updates patient demographic, insurance and billing information.
    • Collects co-payments, past due balances and point of service payments.
    • Posts payments, process billing information and perform “end of day” cash drawer closing.
    • Manages faxing documentation to insurance companies and/or physician offices for authorization and signatures for Plan of Care as appropriate.
    • Manages clinic inventory.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma.
  • BLS Certified within 90 days of hire.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Bilingual
