Job Description

The Prenatal Education Coordinator reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Prenatal Education Coordinator works in collaboration with the Manager of Childbirth and Family Education in the hiring, training, and ongoing professional development of prenatal education staff. He/she assists the Manager in administrative functions and assumes the duties and responsibilities of a prenatal educator as needed. The Prenatal Education Coordinator serves as a role model for all educators in all aspects of professional and leadership activities in support of the standards and guidelines related to staff development put forth by the State of Illinois, the American Nurses' Credentialing Center and the National Nursing and Staff Development Organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains visibility within departments and divisions to which the clinical educators are assigned in order to effectively promote positive collaboration/communication with unit/division leadership staff.  
  • Investigates internal and external customer complaints and follows up appropriately and in a timely manner.  
  • Enhances professional growth and development of Clinical Education staff by supporting in-services, meetings/educational programs, and departmental performance improvement activities, and by utilizing resource materials and publications.  
  • Assumes responsibility for all aspects of prenatal education classes to include assessment, design, development and evaluation.  
  • Schedules and coordinates prenatal education courses and maintains instructor schedules.
  • Solves scheduling conflicts and maintains an excellent relationship with registration staff.  
  • Performs ongoing community needs assessment to determine type, number, frequency, and location of classes; provides quarterly report to manager of Childbirth and Family Educaiton.  
  • Coordinates and supervises orientation and training of new instructors & conducts 90 day & annual evaluation of all prenatal education instructors. 
  • Participates in marketing efforts of prenatal education classes through promotional fliers, direct mailers, physician office visits and other community outreach efforts.  
  • Maintains content expertise by reviewing the current literature, attending seminars and conferences, joining professional organizations and keeps up to date with changes in practice in the Childbirth and Family Education unit.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or Education.  
  • Current Illinois Registered nurse.  
  • Educational Instruction experience. 
  • CPR - Basic Life Support. 

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Nursing or Education.  
  • Supervisory Experience.  
  • IBCLC certification.
  • Childbirth educator certification.
