We are reimagining advertising. Permutive is a real-time data platform that empowers publishers and advertisers to address all of their target audiences, whilst protecting consumer privacy and respecting user consent.
Our unique technology sits behind some of the world's largest publishers such as News Corp, Hearst, BuzzFeed, The Guardian, and Condé Nast to name a few — we enable them to understand and personalize user experiences for hundreds of millions of people every month.
You'll love working with us if you're excited about collaborating with brilliant colleagues, embracing autonomy and responsibility, and tackling challenges that will drive us forward. It’s a great time to join and become a key contributor in shaping Permutive for the future.
Thanks to our category-defining edge technology, we've attracted the attention of global investment partners like EQT Ventures, Octopus Ventures, ACE & Company, and SoftBank Investment Advisers. Additionally, we are listed among YCombinator’s Top 150 companies of all time.
The Solutions Architecture team partners with customers to realize their full potential for growth & success with Permutive.
We are trusted advisors to technology leaders, ad operations teams, and C-level executives at the world’s largest publishers, broadcasters, and advertisers. As Permutive experts, customers look to us for technical leadership, navigating ecosystem changes, and developing their data strategy through the use of our platform.
Internally, we work closely with Permutive’s Engineering, Product, Customer Success, and Sales Engineering teams, identifying, designing & building solutions on top of Permutive’s platform to solve novel business challenges our customers face.
Solutions Architects are highly technical customer-facing Permutive experts that build novel solutions on top of the Permutive platform. As a member of the team, you’ll solve mission-critical business, product, and integration challenges and provide technical thought leadership to customers & partners.
Core Responsibilities
The Solutions Architecture team reports into the CTO org and has three primary responsibilities that you’ll be contributing to:
Build customer stickiness through bespoke solutions: Our enterprise customers have bespoke needs over what’s available out of the box in the platform—so called 'last mile' product gaps. These are often important for customers to maximize value from the platform. Further, although the primary motivator for a churn will be commercial or product-driven, compounding functionality within the platform for a customer makes the prospect of ripping out Permutive more daunting.
Develop our ecosystem integration strategy: Integrations are an amplifier of the value we create for customers, and a source of frustration when we’re not able to prioritize connecting their tools & data into Permutive. The Solutions Architecture team ensures the Permutive platform features a comprehensive catalog of integrations to connect to the wider ad-tech, mar-tech, and cloud ecosystem, owning everything from the prioritization of our integrations roadmap, to partner relationships and commercials, through to delivery & deployment.
Partner with Sales Engineering: Complex enterprise deals can require novel or custom uses of our platform to solve a prospect’s needs. Solution Architects partner with Sales Engineers—in particular our new Technical Sales Engineer role—to advise and help design solutions that could be delivered post-sale to meet a prospect’s unique needs. Similarly, some new revenue opportunities are cross-sells into the parent organization or sister companies of an existing customer—such as Warner Brothers Discover—and a Solution Architect’s command of the customer’s technical setup and how they drive value from Permutive can aid the cross-sell.
As an individual, you can expect to be engaged day-to-day in the following activities:
The majority of your time will be spent building on top of and extending Permutive’s platform. You’ll be expanding Permutive’s footprint within existing accounts by building new platform capabilities and features that solve bespoke customer needs.
Partner with Engineering to architect platforms that allow Permutive capabilities to be extended and built upon.
Own our integration strategy with the wider ecosystem, including managing, building, and increasing adoption of a catalog of platform integrations that amplify the value of Permutive to our customers.
Conduct analysis & research on customers, competitors, and the ad-tech & data industries to drive thought leadership as a trusted advisor to key business and technical stakeholders within our customers.
Lead engagements with customers to build a deep understanding of a customer’s business & data strategy objectives and act as an expert on architecture, design, and deployment discussions to apply Permutive’s solutions to customer challenges.
Act as a partner to the Sales team, providing technical advice & insight as a Technical Sales Engineer coordinates proof-of-concepts for prospective customers.
Technical expertise
Engineering experience with TypeScript is essential, as well as some familiarity with a JVM language.
Experience employing infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform and deploying software containerized software (Docker on Kubernetes) into production through CI/CD. Familiarity with Google Cloud Run or other serverless platforms is beneficial.
It is expected that you have fluency with REST APIs and browser web developer tools; common storage layers like relational databases, NoSQL databases, and data warehouses; and streaming data pipelines such as Kafka.
Collaboration & communication
Available to be in the New York office at least 2 days per week for close collaboration with CSMs and SEs.
Ability to navigate complex technical challenges with a solutions-oriented mindset focused on crafting innovative tailored software solutions for enterprise customers.
Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, partnering with Customer Success, Engineering, Sales Engineering, and Product to grow platform capabilities and deliver impactful POCs.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate technical details into business value for a wide range of stakeholders.
Industry & platform knowledge
Strong understanding of the advertising technology ecosystem and the challenges faced by publishers & advertisers in a post-cookie world.
Ability to build an expert command of all areas of the Permutive platform and adjacent cloud computing platforms like Snowflake, Databricks, GCP, and AWS.

Permutive trusts you to manage your time and deliver results. Our hybrid model allows you to choose where you work best, whether in your own productive space or our London (Farringdon) or New York (Union Square) offices. That said, none of us work alone; we are part of a team.
To foster collaboration and connection, teams in these locations come together in person at least once a week and are encouraged to benefit from being in our offices to meet with teams more often. Commercial and customer-facing teams are encouraged to embrace in-person interactions to build lasting relationships with clients and colleagues.
Every Permutive employee gets together in person at the company’s Annual Kick Off for a week in February. Each year’s event promises to be an exciting opportunity for us to come together, reconnect with colleagues, and align on our shared vision for the year ahead.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
At Permutive, we’re taking a thoughtful, intersectional, long-term approach to diversity, equity & inclusion. We care deeply about creating an inclusive work environment that allows everyone to flourish, and we are taking continual action to progress in that direction.
We’re committed to hiring people regardless of race, religion, colour, national origin, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, and related medical conditions), sexual orientation, gender identity, age, neurodiversity status, disability status, or otherwise.
If an employer mentions a salary or salary range on their job, we display it as an "Employer Estimate". If a job has no salary data, Rise displays an estimate if available.
