Job Summary / PurposeThe Certified Medical Assistant Lead plays a key role in overseeing and guiding the clinical support team under the direction of healthcare providers. This role ensures the efficient delivery of patient care while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and well-being. The Lead Medical Assistant performs a variety of clinical tasks, provides leadership to the Medical Assistant team, and supports the provider’s efforts to ensure accurate and timely patient care. The Lead will also mentor and supervise other Medical Assistants to ensure adherence to clinical protocols and high-quality patient interactions.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision: Lead, supervise, and mentor a team of Medical Assistants, providing guidance on clinical processes and best practices.
Patient Care: Perform patient care procedures following established standards and protocols, ensuring the safety and comfort of patients.
Patient Preparation: Greet, prepare, and escort patients to exam rooms, ensuring they are ready for the healthcare provider’s assessment.
Vital Signs & Assessments: Accurately measure and record vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, height, weight, drug allergies, and current medications.
Blood Collection & Specimen Preparation: Draw blood and collect specimens for laboratory analysis as required, ensuring proper handling and transport.
Medication Administration: Administer prescribed medications and vaccines via oral, injection, topical, rectal, ophthalmic, or inhalant methods, in accordance with provider orders.
Routine Testing: Conduct and assist with routine diagnostic tests, including but not limited to, EKGs, under the direction of the healthcare provider.
Diagnostic Scheduling & Follow-up: Schedule diagnostic testing for patients and ensure all necessary follow-up procedures are completed, including communication with patients about results and care plans.
Infection Control & Equipment Maintenance: Maintain a clean, sterile environment by preparing and sterilizing instruments, keeping exam rooms stocked and orderly, and adhering to infection control protocols.
Documentation: Document patient care, examination results, and treatment plans accurately in the medical record as directed by healthcare providers.
Quality Control & Safety: Complete safety checklists and quality controls as required by practice standards, ensuring the protection of patient safety and privacy.
Escalation of Issues: Identify and escalate non-routine issues, questions, or concerns to the practice manager or healthcare providers for resolution.
Compliance: Ensure compliance with clinic policies, patient confidentiality, and safety standards in all clinical activities.
Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by management to support the smooth operation of the clinic.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification required.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting, with at least 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
Proficiency in performing clinical procedures and patient care tasks.
Strong leadership, mentoring, and communication skills.
Ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems and medical office equipment.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety and confidentiality.
Ability to work effectively with a diverse patient population and team members.
