Lead Data Engineer- Data Serving - job 9 of 21

We are looking for a curious and motivated professional to join our team of passionate and dedicated engineers. We are the Data Custodians at Visa, tackling data and its related challenges at global scale to help the business make data-driven decisions.

As a Lead Data Engineer in Data and Artificial Intelligence Platform (DAP), you will lead a team of data engineers based in Foster City, California, USA. You are a technology leader, with experience in building solutions for business users, leading versatile teams of engineers, and a track record of execution and delivery.  You will work in a rapid-paced environment, embracing a culture where we learn fast and constantly iterate towards success.

You will take a data-driven approach towards reducing the Risk and Fraud in Visa ecosystem by building a comprehensive understanding of our consumers. You will guide and mentor the team to develop platforms, services and solutions on time and within budget. You will work with other development teams globally to collaborate on the solutions.  You will collaborate with Project Managers, Product Managers, architects, SMEs, and businesspeople across the company on high-impact data-related initiatives. This position will report to a Sr. Director of Data-as-a-Services org based in Foster City.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership, guidance and mentoring to a team of engineers to deliver high-quality, robust, and scalable solutions on time and within the budget.
  • Lead the design and development of a scalable, secure, reliable and performant systems that meet the business requirements.
  • Instill best practices for software development. Drive engineering excellence including automation, quality, efficiency, and productivity.
  • Work with geographically distributed teams on technical challenges and process improvements.
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer to the Engineering and Operations team during and after deployment.
  • Drive a culture of innovation by continuously evaluating technologies and practices that increase productivity and quality.
  • Develop and empower team members to make appropriate technical decisions.
  • Ensure resource availability to support deployment activities in various environments.
  • Work collaboratively with senior management, architects and senior development staff to develop broadly acceptable solutions.
  • This role requires you to code at least 60% of the time in your preferred coding language

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 3 days a week.
