About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and transformational Sr. Manager of Software Development Engineering to scale and lead a local team of innovative and experienced engineers. You will be responsible for growing and leading an Engineering team building out capabilities that will help define the future architecture of the Workday platform.  You will take on the challenge of building and executing on the product and technical vision, proving out advanced designs and scaling it to meet growing business needs while minimizing operational cost.  You will have responsibility for completing the development and helping launch Workday’s enterprise platform capabilities and collaborating with partners across the organization in discovery and scoping efforts.

  • Build and lead a team of engineers who write code, develop tools, and perform other software engineering tasks which are vital to prove out the architecture, in an iterative, agile environment

  • Work with internal Workday stakeholders to develop a platform roadmap which balances the needs of the stakeholders, available staffing, and the priorities for the business

  • Collaborate with architects, principal engineers and technical product managers to analyze functional requirements, devise architecture designs that provide real scalability, low latency, and high availability

  • Contribute ideas for continually improving the team's productivity, job enjoyment, and product quality

  • Be an enthusiast of our technologies and products. Influence and collaborate across functional teams in coming together towards a common business goal and architecture

  • Grow the organization by hiring key talent and mentoring existing team members

About You

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience of leading Platform engineering teams, 2+ years managing people leaders

  • Team management experience, with a track record of continually improving organizational health and growing engineering leaders

  • Experience with operations, development, and testing of large scale distributed systems

  • Previous experience with platform development, both integrating or extending multiple solutions to deliver an intuitive and comprehensive set of service infrastructure management capabilities

  • Solid organizational skills, attention to detail, exceptional communication skills, and validated ability to lead and deliver projects within a given timeline and budget.

  • You are comfortable working in a “startup” environment (i.e., fast paced, small teams, open questions).

Other Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science or related fields. Graduate degree is a bonus

  • Experience with cloud computing and multi-tenant infrastructure architectures
