We are seeking a Director of Software Engineering who is passionate about growing and sustaining an innovative technology organization while fostering a culture of engineering and operational excellence. This individual will be an engineering leader who enjoys solving complex business problems in a fast-paced, collaborative, inclusive, and iterative delivery environment. The Director of Software Engineering, Enterprise Platform Technology, provides strategic leadership for our enterprise financial core platform. This role demands a visionary approach to developing the platform's capabilities to support diverse financial instruments, in close partnership with key LOBs (Card, Bank, etc.). You will define and execute the technical strategy and multi-year roadmap, driving collaboration across all business units. Your expertise in building robust, large-scale distributed systems, coupled with a strong FinTech background and domain knowledge of financial institutions, will be crucial in influencing business and product stakeholders to address complex business problems.

 

You will design cloud native solutions and will have the opportunity to work on emerging technologies such as: AWS, Java, Scala, etc. 

 

Specifically you will:

 

  • Lead multiple agile teams and coach and mentor engineers through their career development and performance

  • Work with Product partners to develop the technology strategy, roadmap and vision for the platforms you own; and deliver application capabilities

  • Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across a full-stack development tools and technologies

  • Lead complex vendor relationships and ensure well-managed integration of vendor platforms into our broader Capital One ecosystem

  • Develop and leverage trusted relationships across Architecture, Design, and other Technology leaders to ensure strategic alignment across key Bank Tech initiatives

  • Bring a passion to stay on top of tech trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in internal & external technology communities

  • Encourage innovation, implementation of cutting-edge technologies, inclusion, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork, self-organization, and diversity

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • At least 7 years experience in software engineering or software development

  • At least 5 years experience in people management

  • At least 5 years of experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering or software development

  • 7+ years of experience with public cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure) 

  • 5+ years of experience in building large scale, customer facing systems

  • 5+ years of experience in Agile practices

  • 3+ years of experience in modernizing technology stacks

  • 2+ years of experience in fintech

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $263,900 - $301,200 for Director, Software Engineering


 

New York, NY: $287,800 - $328,500 for Director, Software Engineering


 

Richmond, VA: $239,900 - $273,800 for Director, Software Engineering


 

San Jose, CA: $287,800 - $328,500 for Director, Software Engineering


 


 


 


 


 


 


 

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
