Denver Parks and Recreation (DPR) provides a broad range of programs, services, facilities, and park amenities within the City and County of Denver. The City’s park system encompasses more than 290 urban parks, parkways, and natural areas, totaling over 7,000 acres. The Department boasts more than 14,000 acres of pristine mountain parks, eight golf courses, 24 lakes, more than 87,000 park trees, 187,000 right-of-way trees, over 90 miles of off-street trails, 14 off-leash dog parks, and over 300 athletic fields. The recreation system serves approximately 2.25 million visitors annually. It includes 30 active recreation centers, 16 outdoor pools, and 16 current indoor pools. Recreation activities include arts and cultural classes and events, aquatics, sports and fitness opportunities, and youth programming. In addition, the Department offers programs focused on outdoor education, youth and adult sports leagues, and out of school programs offered in conjunction with Denver Public Schools. DPR comprises four divisions: Administration, Recreation, Parks, and Planning, Design and Construction.

What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $90,000.00 - $110,000.00/year, based on education and experience. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which includes but is not limited to:

  • 132 hours of PTO earned within first year + 12 paid holidays, 1 personal holiday and 1 volunteer day per year

Location

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed.  Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.

What You’ll Do

Denver Parks and Recreation (DPR) is seeking an experienced, highly motivated project manager for the position of Irrigation Project Manager and Design to be responsible for implementing park irrigation projects to assure that City, Departmental, and Division goals are met. As part of DPR’s Capital Project Group, this position will assume the lead responsibility for managing in house design and installation projects as well as working with consultants and contractors on irrigation design and construction projects for the overall parks and recreation system, providing leadership in all associated tasks from funding, design, bidding and construction. In addition, this position will play a lead role in implementing irrigation projects system wide.

Responsibilities

  • Project Leadership: Assumes leadership role for management, execution and implementation of DPR design and construction irrigation projects including administration of scope, schedule, budget, public participation, stakeholder involvement, intra-departmental plan review, bidding and contract negotiations and construction administration and inspection services. You will also assume the full responsibility for consistent reporting on project progress and addressing any other project issues or roadblocks to supervisor and department management
  • District Planning and Design: You will be responsible for providing in-house irrigation design and ensuring those designs are implemented correctly with the in-house installation team.  You will oversee the design of plans and specifications from outside consultants on larger citywide projects that advance the mission, vision and values of the Department and coordinate ongoing planning efforts for the future Capital Improvement Program (CIP).   This includes technical reviews of irrigation plans for all park projects.   
  • Policy: You will oversee efforts in both park and citywide development review including enforcement, establishment and maintenance of appropriate DPR policies and standards, internal standard operating procedures, park standards and quality assurance. You will identify and cultivate potential partnerships between DPR and other interest groups, internal and external.
  • Communication & Internal Production: You will collaborate in the exchange of information between city staff, the public and stakeholders through clear and effective written, graphic and verbal communication. You will build consensus and support for DPR efforts and coordinate efforts to bring stakeholders together who have opposing views and interests in order to successfully complete projects. You will enhance and actively seek out positive public relations for the department. You will utilize recognized planning methodology in managing stakeholders and consultants to accomplish work. You will also cultivate and support efforts to secure grants and other project funding opportunities and coordinate departmental technology improvements and training support.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Project Management, Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture or a related field.
  • Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of professional project management experience in the related occupational group including coordinating, administering, and monitoring projects.
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
