Lead Product Designer

Our Ways of Working Principles:

We believe that most of us do our best work when we work together, but we know that everyone works in different ways, and quite frankly, has other commitments and responsibilities outside of work.

As we further adjust  to hybrid working, we want to take what we've learnt from working remotely and keep the flexibility that's enabled us to thrive and keep driving our business forward.

We have some core principles which support us in this:

Do what’s right

Trust & give permission

Delivery matters

We understand ways of working can look different based on your role, team and you as an individual so we are here to support and discuss this with you during the interview process.

Work with us

Moonpig Group recently achieved ‘Unicorn’ status in one of the biggest tech IPOs of 2021, making the FTSE 250 index of leading companies listed on the London Stock Exchange with a market cap of £1.5 billion.

At Moonpig Group, our mission is to help people connect and create moments that matter. We are an international group made up of two brilliant brands – Moonpig in the UK, US and Australia, and Greetz in the Netherlands.

We were founded with the goal of disrupting the traditional greetings industry. Two decades on, we are an established leader within the online gifting market, offering a wide range of products to customers worldwide.

Moonpig is an iconic brand and innovator with great values that we reflect in our work culture. You have every chance to drive impact here at Moonpig, and most importantly, we genuinely want you!

The Role

We are looking for a strong product design leader to join our Product Design Team as a Lead Product Designer, on a 9 month FTC. Working together with your design peers and Product Leadership, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating design within your domain, and facilitating its feasibility and enhancement across the experience. You will have 2 direct reports, both individual contributors, comprising our checkout and design system.

Additionally you will be acting as a player coach, supporting our customer team as the sole designer in that squad, joining team ceremonies and getting your hands dirty in Figma when needed.

You will be collaborating with product teams and business stakeholders to ensure that design goals and design and discovery milestones are met. You will directly impact strategy and roadmap. You will support the team to focus on what matters most, to help deliver a best-in-class user experience, able to flex between hands on design coaching, and zooming out to help define our future direction and strategy.

Reporting to the Director of Product Design, you will join an established team of about 12 Product Designers. You will have full support and access to research and data resources.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Support and mentor Product Designers to develop a vision for best-in-class user experience across all platforms within your domain
  • Work with Product Designers to facilitate definition of high-level design strategy and creation of design deliverables based on research and data
  • Act as a player coach, supporting our customer team as the sole designer in that squad, developing the design vision, strategy and execution for that team.
  • Ensure that your function and squad deliver best practice design across both web and apps.
  • Ensure UX is prioritised by working with product leadership (and other business stakeholders) to identify opportunities for validation and better cross-functional collaboration
  • Actively advocate for Product Design throughout the organisation, such as with commercial, marketing and operations teams
  • Help support and guide Product Designers and set them up for success, creating and empowering clear development plans for your team
  • Recommend new technologies and tools to optimise product design processes, championing a culture of experimentation, rapid testing, and innovating at pace.

You'll be a good addition to the Design team if you:
  • 8+ years of industry experience in product design and user research roles, especially in fast moving environments
  • 3+ years experience managing Product Designers
  • Proven ability to provide thought leadership and guide a team towards achieving a common goal
  • Experience coaching and guiding Product Designers within the team to think strategically and make high-quality and impactful decisions
  • Can balance user needs with commercial goals, ensuring that design decisions positively impact conversion, retention, and business KPIs
  • Enjoy hands on design work, working directly with a squad to support with roadmap deliverables.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills
  • Experience managing geographically distributed teams a plus (we’re based across London, Manchester and Amsterdam)
  • Are passionate about fostering a culture of collaboration, learning, and inclusivity—ensuring your team feels empowered to take risks and push creative boundaries.
  • Experience in the e-commerce domain is a plus
  • Experience managing teams across both web and native applications is a plus

A little more about you:
  • Have managed and mentored both junior and senior product designers, successfully supporting their development and growth
  • Have a track record of using data (qualitative and quantitative) to drive design decisions and measure their impact on user experience and business goals
  • You embrace complexity and ambiguity with a proven record of designing and shipping top-notch solutions within these constraints
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced, agile environment
  • Comfortable working with senior leadership, influencing at the exec level, and shaping design roadmaps that align with business priorities.
  • Hands-on experience with UX Research as well as partnering with Researchers and data teams
  • Experience designing for both app and web platforms.
