Port Engineer

The Port Engineer is responsible for the continuous mechanical operations of the O’Hara Northwest Fishing Fleet. By working directly with vessel crew and management, the Port Engineer is expected to preplan vessel maintenance and operations to allow a maximum fishing season and minimal dock time. The Port Engineer is also responsible for providing knowledge, support, and know how to vessel crew. Essential Duties & Job Functions:

  • Support & maintain the safe operation of O’Hara Corporation Fishing Fleet
  • Arrange & manage Vessel Maintenance during Fishing Season and Shipyard Periods
  • Communicate with onboard crew to plan and manage vessel maintenance
  • Communicate with Purchasing Department on the procurement of parts and services
  • Communicate with outside vendors to plan onboard vessel maintenance
  • Arrange & Manage Yearly NMFS Vessel Inspections and Certifications
  • Arrange & Manage Yearly USCG Inspections & Requirements
  • Learn, Understand, and Utilize TM Master, Worldview, and Microsoft Office
  • Assist with vessel inspections during SY to maintain a safe work environment
  • Understand and utilize SharePoint to compile vessel documentation in one location
  • Proficient in the Worldview Approval Process and making informed decisions on vessel expenses
  • Work with all vessels to make sure all equipment history is accurately recorded in TM Master during the fishing season
  • Develop Shipyard Work Lists and TM Docking Module “Projects”, enforce the programs are being used and updated, and make sure all information is accurate
  • Estimate and plan budgets for fleet maintenance
  • Responsibilities in Worldview
    • Perform pre-approval checks of incoming invoices, including emailing copies of invoices to respective crewmembers for their approval if maintenance/purchases are unknown
    • Follow up with vendors on misbilling’s and invoice corrections
  • Travel to Dutch Harbor up to 6 times a year to visit vessel operations, warehouse spaces, and meet with Dutch Harbor Operations Employees
  • Assist in the accurate management of Seattle and Dutch Harbor warehouse spaces
  • Manage maintenance & repairs needed for the 4315 11th Ave NW address
  • Ensure the fleet of company vehicles in Seattle are serviceable, clean, and ready for use at all times
  • Manage and Oversee the Shipyard Coordinator

 Work Environment:

  • The Port Engineer will be based out of Seattle, WA
  • Flexibility regarding hours of work is required as needed to meet demands of the job
  • Position may be exposed to extremely hostile weather conditions at times while working outdoors.  The company provides appropriate PPE
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee may be directly at the work site where the employee could be exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud
  • Continuous education may be required following hire

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • Shipyard Competent Person Certified
  • Know how to read technical drawings, blueprints, and repair manuals
  • Able to write detailed engineering reports and summaries based off findings and opinions
  • Computer and Microsoft Office Competency

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong Leadership Skills
  • Great Communication Skills

 Physical Requirements:

  • Physical and technical requirements that meet the standards of O’Hara Corporation  
  • Infrequent lifting up to 25lbs
  • Frequent walking and standing for periods exceeding one hour
  • Frequent keyboard use and sitting at a desk
  • Frequent bending, twisting and reaching.
  • Medical, vision and dental insurance is offered to employees and qualified dependents if elected
  • If elected, 401k employee contributions begin 60 days from start date with employer match after one year of employment

Compensation:

  • 95K-140K DOE
