About the Team
OpenAI’s Go-To-Market (GTM) team partners with the world’s most ambitious organizations to deploy frontier AI systems. We help customers build category-defining products, navigate complex technical integrations, and launch generative AI solutions that redefine what’s possible.
About the Role
We’re hiring for Special Projects Lead, GTM — a strategic, high-ownership role for exceptional operators who can bring clarity, momentum, and results to OpenAI’s most important commercial initiatives. You’ll be a utility player across top GTM programs, with direct ownership of 1–2 high-impact projects at any given time. Examples include developing the GTM operating cadence, partnering to create a new business unit, and driving quarterly/annual planning.
This role is ideal for former product managers, founders, or strategy consultants who thrive in ambiguity, move fast, and drive measurable outcomes. You'll collaborate closely with OpenAI’s product and engineering orgs, and work on externally visible efforts which are often first-of-its-kind.
In this role, you will:
Act as a product manager for the organization, incubating brand-new initiatives, shaping their direction, and partnering with leaders across the company to bring them to life.
Lead execution on 1–2 of OpenAI’s most critical, fast-moving projects at a time, where success is both high-stakes and high-impact.
Serve as a strategic force-multiplier across 5–10 cross-functional efforts, helping unblock decisions, clarify priorities, and drive progress on our top company goals.
Dive into varied and evolving scopes of work, from building support models for scaled deployments to structuring GTM input into the product roadmap.
Be a trusted partner to senior leadership — delivering crisp updates, high-quality analysis, and clear, confident recommendations.
Never do the same thing twice; your scope will shift as priorities evolve, and your ability to thrive in ambiguity will be core to your success.
You’ll thrive in this role if you:
Bring 6+ years of experience in product management, strategy, founding or building companies, or similar roles — with a track record of success in high-performance environments.
Operate like a founder — owning outcomes end-to-end, learning fast, and applying sound judgment in ambiguous, fast-changing contexts.
Excel at program management — driving decision velocity, aligning stakeholders, unblocking teams, and delivering outcomes.
Communicate with clarity and polish — tailoring written, verbal, and visual formats to both technical and executive audiences.
Combine strong product intuition with technical fluency — enabling you to partner seamlessly with engineering, product, research, and GTM leads.
Think analytically and act precisely — mapping systems, surfacing tradeoffs, and producing crisp, high-quality work across everything you own.
