Job Description

AECOM is seeking an entry-level Transit / Urban Transportation Planner I to join the growing transportation planning team in Detroit, Michigan.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Planning and project development activities for transportation projects under supervision of more senior staff.
  • Supports planning studies and reports for new and updated plans and programs.
  • Collects a variety of statistical data and prepares reports and maps on topics, such as census information, land use, roadway network, crash records, and asset inventories.
  • Utilizes Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to analyze data and prepare detailed maps for use in reports.
  • Conducts concept level evaluation of transportation improvement options.
  • Documents and presents findings on transportation planning projects.
  • Research current transportation related topics at local, State, and Federal levels.
  • Research project options and documents findings
  • Assists with other duties assigned by senior staff and/or Project Managers.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements :

  • BS in urban planning, Civil Engineering, transportation, geography, public policy, Or related field.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and pass Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Technical writing
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Basic knowledge of transit and transportation planning topics
  • Ability to conduct multi-modal transportation planning and analysis, including analyzing and recommending solutions for urban transportation issues
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of planning, research and data collection
  • Analytical skills to interpret research data for reports and apply statistical techniques in practical situations
  • Oral communication and interpersonal skills to explain planning concepts clearly to clients and the public
  • Knowledge in developing and presenting illustrative reports and graphics utilizing Adobe CS or other graphics software packages.
  • Fast learner who is open to learning new concepts, specializations and software programs
  • Demonstrated experience in creating transportation planning documents or analyses for city governments or affiliated organizations
  • Advanced knowledge of using GIS for spatial analysis
  • Interest in obtaining AICP certification
