The Vascular Access Registered Nurse (VA-RN) provides services to inpatients and outpatients who require specialized assistance for placement and/or maintenance of vascular access devices. Based on individualized assessment of vascular access needs, the VA-RN selects the appropriate device and insertion site. The VA-RN serves as a resource for patients, families, and staff for maintenance of vascular access devices; in order to decrease risk of complications, including blood stream infections. The VA-RN identifies and meets the educational needs of patients, families, and staff.
The Vascular Access Team (VAT) is a mobile unit providing hospital wide services. This includes but is not limited to all inpatient floors, outpatient clinics, PICU and CMS. The team exists to insert and manage peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs), treat complications of all other central venous catheters and educate staff and families regarding peripheral and central venous catheter care and act as resources for difficult peripheral IV placements. The VAT's office and outpatient procedure bay are located on 1 Hall Tower. However, our services are also brought to the patients' bedside with mobile carts containing all needed supplies.

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $31.42/hr, but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.
This position is not eligible to work remotely, which means that the person hired will be required to work onsite at one of our Children’s Mercy locations and may not work from home.
