Job Description

The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.

The mission of the Strategic Initiatives Bureau is to design and drive long term, enterprise-wide transformation by evaluating policies, programs, and resources to strive towards maximum organizational effectiveness. Strategic Initiatives serves as a primary advisor to the Police Commissioner regarding the Department's short and long term strategic goals, and examines new technologies and innovative solutions to help the Department fulfill its primary mission of keeping New York City safe. The Strategic Initiatives Bureau is comprised of the Project Management Office {PMO), the Change Management Office (CMO), the Office of Management, Analysis, and Planning (OMAP), and the Office of the Strategic Initiatives Bureau.

The Project Manager will be responsible for the coordination and management of diverse projects across the Department. The Project Manager will be responsible for managing the full-life cycle of major improvement and new initiatives and provide analytical and technical assistance for planning, coordinating, and implementing large and complex projects. Specific tasks may involve:

- Manages multiple project teams and coordinates work among project teams. Coaches and trains team members on project methodology and PMO processes.
- Works directly with project team members to determine project-planning goals and oversees the execution of work plan(s).
- Identifies and assigns areas of project responsibility, coordinates project-planning workload and supervises preparation of appropriate reports for executive staff.
- Continuously assess project plans, resources, milestones, key performance indicators (KPls), and internal governance structure to ensure projects are on track.
- Generates various project-related documents including requirement specifications, contracts, schedules, project plans, and executive presentations, meeting agendas, minutes and status reports.
- Facilitates meetings with stakeholders and project team members to discuss project work plan, deliverables, and areas of support.
- Provides project team direction and vision, including motivating people to perform, listening to people, providing feedback, recognizing strengths, and coaching through challenges.
- Prepares and delivers informative and well-organized presentations.
- Resolves and/or escalates issues in a timely fashion.
- Understands how and when to communicate difficult/sensitive information appropriately.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
In compliance with federal Law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire.

Qualifications

1. For Assignment Level I (only physical, biological and environmental sciences and public health) A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.
To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above, candidates must have:
1. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
2. A master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least a master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in "2" above. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in "1" and "2" above.

Appointments to this position are subject to a minimum probationary period of one year.
