Energy demand is rising for the first time in decades, driving an urgent need for more infrastructure to deliver affordable, reliable and clean electricity. New clean energy infrastructure requires domestic supply chains for critical minerals and components, as well as large amounts of capital. Unfortunately, accessing the necessary financing at each stage of a project lifecycle presents challenges for developers and manufacturers. 

Crux is the capital markets platform changing the way clean energy and manufacturing projects are financed in the U.S. We have raised ~$27 million in capital from some of the best investors, including Andreessen Horowitz, Lowercarbon Capital, New System Ventures, Overture, Ardent Venture Partners, QED, Canapi, and others. These funds are joined by strategic investors who collectively generate billions of dollars of tax credits annually.

Clean energy finance by the numbers:

  • 160% increase in power demand from data centers by 2030, according to Goldman Sachs

  • 95% of the increase in global power capacity through 2026 will be clean energy, according to the IEA

  • $500B+ estimated tax credits to be monetized through 2030, according to Credit Suisse

About The Role

The traditional process for transacting tax credits is manual & onerous. We’ve built a product that solves parts of that problem and now we need to expand its breadth & depth in a rigorous, analytical way. We’re excited to grow our engineering team to help us with this! 

We are an experienced and highly collaborative group of eight engineers that has prioritized team diversity from the beginning. Our tech stack is composed of Typescript, React, SQL, built on top of Vercel and Supabase PaaS/BaaS. We value curiosity, open-mindedness, humility, and flexibility. Given the complexity of our domain, we look for folks who are deeply motivated to learn and do not hesitate to ask questions. What you’ll do

  • Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional partners to build products and features that support the renewable energy transition

  • Write readable, well-structured, well-tested, and well-documented code with an eye towards usability, performance, and scalability

  • Lead the design and implementation of our next-generation backend and data platforms and infrastructure as we grow and scale

  • Participate in and in some cases lead engineering learning and coworking sessions

  • Contribute to building our team culture and developing our technical best practices 

Who you are

  • 8+ years of professional backend or data engineering experience, including shaping the architecture and technical best practices of teams 

  • B.S. in computer science, computer engineering, or related field

  • Data or platform engineering expertise (e.g. data warehouses / data pipelines, MLOps, monitoring and observability, developer tooling and infrastructure)

  • Authorized to work in the US or Canada

  • You are a self-starter with a strong sense of ownership and desire to learn and grow

  • You have built/perpetuated/cultivated a collaborative and inclusive team environment, and have experience working on fully remote teams

Compensation 

  • Annual base salary: $200,000-240,000 USD

  • Company wide bonus tied to revenue goals

  • Stock options

  • Full health benefits, 20 days PTO, 10 company holidays

This is a fully remote role, with opportunities to co-work in SF, Seattle, DC, or NYC.
