Project Officer

Position overview

CTI is seeking a motivated and well-organised Project Officer to support the planning, implementation and follow-up of CTI’s activities, including country engagement, capacity-building events, and communications. This is an entry to mid-level professional role ideal for someone with a background in human rights, international relations, law, or political science, who is detail-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced and diplomatic environment.

The Project Officer will work closely with team members to help ensure the smooth running of CTI’s projects and activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the preparation, delivery and follow-up of CTI activities and events, such as workshops, briefings, study visits, and bilateral meetings;
  • Conduct research and background analysis on legal, policy and political matters relevant to UNCAT ratification and implementation;
  • Draft written materials including background notes, reports, speaking points, and correspondence;
  • Support CTI’s outreach and engagement with States and partners;
  • Contribute to communications, including CTI’s website content, newsletters and social media;
  • Provide logistical and administrative support, including travel planning, budget tracking, and record-keeping;
  • Coordinate with consultants, external partners and service providers as needed;
  • Support internal planning processes and Secretariat functions as part of a small, collaborative team.

Qualifications and Experience

  • University degree in law, human rights, international relations, political science or a related field;
  • 2–4 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in international organisations, government, NGOs or similar environments;
  • Good understanding of the UN system, international human rights, and rule of law issues;
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks independently;
  • Excellent writing, research and communication skills in English; and
  • Fluency in English is essential; working knowledge of another UN language is an asset.
