Cham Interpreter - Contractor

POSITION SUMMARY:

An Independent Contractor Interpreter is responsible for facilitating interpretation sessions for CyraCom clients in a professional, focused manner and utilizing the necessary equipment to provide accurate and complete interpretation.

Interpreters must possess and maintain a high level of skill, proficiency, and professionalism in interpreting. Due to the sensitive nature of much of the information processed during an interpretation session, a high degree of integrity and confidentiality must be maintained at all times.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES):

  • Provides meaning-for-meaning interpreting.
  • Follows interpreter protocols and procedures as required by CyraCom clients.
  • Follows all CyraCom policies and procedures related to information confidentiality and interpreter ethics.
  • Continuously improves vocabulary and specialized subject matter knowledge, as required for various clients, such as medical, legal, social services, etc.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Fluency in English and the target language.
  • Skilled at communicating, both orally and in writing in English and target language.
  • Basic understanding of linguistics and different cultures.
  • Skilled in adjusting to rapidly changing circumstances.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and skilled at exercising initiative within the parameter of policies and procedures as required by CyraCom’ s client standards.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment such as telephones, computers, copiers and fax machines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

We are looking for experienced candidates that have a mixture of required and preferred qualifications.

Required:

  • Interpretation experience (Examples of interpretation experience: medical, court, or government interpretation. For languages of lesser diffusion, interpreting within their communities, family, congregation, or during missionary work.)

OR

  • Professional interpreter certification or training.

Preferred:

  • A two- to four-year degree in interpretation.
  • Higher education taught in English or other working language.
  • Experience in relevant areas other than interpretation (e.g. healthcare).

Pay rate $0.40/min and varies based on experience, dialects and interpreter certifications provided.

As an Independent Contractor Interpreter, you will not be employee of CyraCom. Rather you will function as a vendor, providing language interpretation services on an IRS Form 1099 basis.
