Job Description :
The New York Post provides readers with the best in News, Sports, Pop Culture and Entertainment – with signature wit, irreverence and authority averaging 90 million unique viewers a month. Over the past 224 years, The Post has evolved into a multi-platform media company spanning print, digital, video, audio, app, television and commerce.
The New York Post is looking for a Capitol Hill Reporter (M-F) to take readers behind closed doors and inside the minds -- and elsewhere -- of Washington's movers and shakers. This reporter would be eager to dive head first into the biggest scandals rocking the nation's capital and involving some of the most important people in American politics.
This role isn’t for the faint of heart. This reporter will be a self-starter, well-sourced and fearless, with a strong knowledge of legislative affairs -- in more ways than one -- and all the key DC players.
If you thrive in a fast-paced, competitive news environment, keep reading.
Responsibilities:
● Cover Capitol Hill with a sharp, critical eye.
● Build and maintain a deep network of government sources to uncover exclusive stories.
● Break exclusive stories that both set the news agenda and the dinner table conversation.
● File breaking news quickly, accurately, and concisely under tight deadlines.
● Leverage SEO and social media best practices to expand audience reach.
● Collaborate with editors and other reporters on investigative projects and enterprise stories.
Requirements:
● 5+ years of investigative journalism experience
● Established sources in the legislative branch (and the skills to develop more).
● A nose for news, with a proven track record of breaking exclusive stories.
● Strong writing skills
● Ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced, deadline-driven newsroom.
● Experience with WordPress and knowledge of SEO and social media best practices.
● Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings and occasional weekends.
Note: Candidate is required to be based in Washington, DC.
