The incumbent will join a world-class research team including internal and external partners to deliver on research and commercialization projects jointly funded by Eaton and government research agencies.Job ResponsibilitiesEaton’s Corporate Technology Office (CTO) Division is currently seeking a Power Electronics/Machine Learning Researcher. This position is based at our Southfield, MI, facility on a hybrid schedule. Relocation assistance will be provided. In this function you will: -• Plans and executes research activities in AI/ML aided power electronics design and tool development including coordination of the activities of internal and external research partners.• Remain current on relevant scientific and industry trends and state-of-the-art techniques• Apply state-of-the-art Optimal controls, optimization algorithms and development/application of Large Language Models• Be knowledgeable in the fundamental concepts and principles of power electronics• Interface with external and internal partners/stakeholders on collaborative programs.• Presents research findings and recommendations to internal stakeholders to inform technology strategy, aid deployment of capabilities and support investment decisions• Research and implement appropriate ML algorithms and tools• Develop machine learning applications per requirements- Contribute towards new proposals to external funding agencies• This Hybrid role must report on-site 3 days a week at either Southfield, Michigan .. or .. Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. If needed, relocation assistance (within US only) is available for a qualified candidate currently residing in the USA.QualificationsRequired (Basic) Qualifications:• PhD in Electrical Engineering .• 3 -5 years of hands-on experience with the state-of-the-art optimization algorithms and tools, and knowledge of Transformers (learning modules) and their applications in Large Language Models .• Solid foundation in Linear Algebra.• Excellent Python coding skills including extensive hands-on experience using open-source end-to-end machine learning workflows.• Must be authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future - This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.Preferred Qualifications• PhD in Electrical Engineering with a focus on application of optimal controls, Optimization algorithms and/or Machine learning• Knowledge of simulation using tools such as Matlab, Simulink, PLECS, LTSPICE etc.• Sound understanding of Machine and Deep Learning concepts. (Supervised, Semi-supervised, Unsupervised, Reinforcement Learning)• Knowledge in Transformer Models and its applications, e.g. LLMs• Demonstrated experience in training and deploying ML and DL models using various frameworks like pytorch, pytorch lightning, Keras, tensorflow, numpy, pandas, scikit learn etc. (selection of algorithms, hyperparameter tuning, on-prem/cloud-based training etc.)• Prior work experience in industry in the application of optimal controls, optimization, and ML/DL• Experience in deployment of ML/AI models on resource constrained edge devices• Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to changing needs.We are committed to ensuring equal employment opportunities for all job applicants and employees.
