The High School Explainer: PACE Program offers paid, part-time positions for young adults aged 18-21 to gain hands-on experience in a museum setting, engaging visitors and supporting exhibits while working 19.5-24 hours weekly.
Responsibilities: Responsibilities include exhibit maintenance, facilitating visitor engagement during events, performing scientific demonstrations, and handling visitor concerns while maintaining museum operations.
Skills: Candidates should demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and the ability to work independently; a valid work permit is required for those under 18.
Qualifications: Applicants must be aged 18-21, available for training sessions, and able to commit to the full summer session from June 16 to September 7, 2025.
Location: The position is based in San Francisco, CA, with no additional travel required.
Compensation: $19 - $19 / Hourly
SUMMARY
The High School Explainer: PACE Program (Professional Advancement & Career Exposure) is designed to provide young people between the ages of 17-21 with supplemental museum work experience. Explainers are exposed to a variety of museum disciplines while supporting the High School Explainer program in its core mission of providing an interactive social environment rich in both science and the arts in which students can explore phenomena, learn about themselves, and provide the museum with an informed and energetic floor staff.
PACE Program participants report to the High School Explainer: PACE program managers. This is a paid position at $19.18/hour. High School Explainer: PACE participants are expected to work 3 days per week (19.5- 24 hours per week).
Mandatory training for first-time High School Explainer program participants will be held on June 7, June 8, June 11, and June 12, from 12:00 pm - 5:30 pm.
