Frye Island Ferry Operations/Part time Seasonal Ferry Captain and Mate/ Raymond, Maine 

 

Frye Island Ferry System, located on beautiful Sebago Lake, provides ferry transportation to Frye Island servicing the local community and vacationers throughout the season. 

 

Part time Seasonal opportunities available for 2025! 

Sebago Lake between Frye Island and Raymond, Maine 

 

TRAINING PROVIDED FOR ALL POSITIONS  

CAPTAINS: VESSEL OPERATION EXPERIENCE PREFERRED 

 

Ferry Boat Captain - Responsible for safe and efficient operation of 90-ton twin-diesel vehicle and passenger ferry boats  

 

Ferry Mate/Deckhand - Passenger interface, ticketing, loading, and departure and arrival operations for vehicle and passenger ferry

  • 6-hour shifts with 3 shift schedules availablerunning from 7 am – 10 pm 
  • On call or per diem opportunities also available

  • Hourly rate starting at $20/hr 


Requirements for the Ferry Captain:
  • Experience in powered vessel operation  
  • Demonstrated proficiency in handling twin-engine flat-bottom barges under the range of expected load and weather conditions.  Familiarity with transport vessel operation desirable. 
  • Flexibility and responsiveness - capacity to adapt to changing circumstances and demands. 
  • Strong collaborative and customer service orientation. 
  • Ability to use computer software and communicate via email. 


Requirements for the Ferry Mate/Deckhand:
  • Ability to use a mobile device and app to perform ticketing. 
  • Ability to consistently differentiate vehicle configurations and apply charges accordingly. 
  • Physical ability to walk and bend repeatedly, secure and release chains, and pass through tight spaces between vehicles. 
  • Ability to use computer software to open and close shifts; ability to communicate via email. 
  • Ability to maintain a positive and customer-friendly demeanor.
