Materials Manager

Job Overview

The Materials Manager will manage the procurement and maintenance of proper inventory levels. The Materials Manager has the overall responsibility for ensuring that the company's material needs are met. The Materials Manager also works to ensure that any material quality issues are effectively addressed at the root cause level and strives to achieve and maintain ship-to-use status for all materials.  The Materials Manager will manage employees in the Purchasing department and may also manage employees in the Receiving, Shipping, and Recycling departments.  The Materials manager will be responsible for interviewing potential candidates, hiring, training and developing employees.

Highlights of your role

  • Manage and monitor inventory levels and inventory turns.
  • Oversee the development and performance of the purchasing department and other assigned departments.
  • Achieve financial objectives by managing materials, labor, and SGA.
  • Work with Manufacturing Services on special requests and commercial jobs.
  • Responsible for managing strong supplier partnerships and supporting purchasing agents and buyers as key contacts in supplier relationships.
  • Maintain and manage supplier performance measures.
  • Contribute to reducing Marvin’s Operational costs
  • Responsible to work with functional departments for determining root cause of material quality issues to drive down to appropriate resolution to manage COPQ.
  • Manage obsolescence costs.
  • Work directly with scheduling and production to make sure customer demands are met.
  • Represent purchasing on project teams.
  • Investigate quality concerns to determine root cause
  • Prevent quality issues from leaving facility

You're a good fit if you have (or if you can)

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience is required
  • Must be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite and have a working knowledge of ICIM
  • Supervisory experience is strongly preferred
  • A minimum of four years of Quality/Purchasing management is preferred
