POSITION SUMMARY: As a key member of the New Product Development (NPD) department, the Electrical Technical Lead in Transit Architecture – Software will be responsible for providing technical leadership and overseeing product development as they proceed through the design process. This includes providing support such that all assigned engineering deliverables for the design/product are completed on time and meet all requirements at all points in the product life cycle.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Act as a direct liaison to the NPD Project Leaders and NPD Engineering Managers to ensure design requirements are conveyed and identified while documenting all technical issues for the NPD team.
  • Conduct risk assessments and mitigation planning for upcoming designs, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth tasking and critical path management.
  • Facilitate communication between NPD and other departments, including Production Engineering, Customer Service, and Manufacturing, optimizing engineering output.
  • Create, check, and approve engineering designs, documents, test reports, service instructions, and shop floor instructions.
  • Report development activity statuses to NPD leadership and support employee training.
  • Collaborate with Service Managers and vendors to support the resolution of engineering issues as required related to field buses, ensuring the incorporation of solutions into NPD design releases.
  • Ensure proper documentation of supplier applications, product performance, and testing requirements.
  • Support new product launch integration with departments such as Production, Quality Assurance, and Customer Service as directed.
  • Review and ensure bid documents meet specifications and compliance as directed for new products.
  • Consult with suppliers to resolve design-related issues, ensuring that end goals align with product approval requirements.
  • Manage the creation of engineering designs that meet customer specifications and industry standards.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline or equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of electrical design experience, particularly in vehicle architecture and software development.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in PLC and advanced programming languages.
    • Familiarity with Unigraphics or similar 3D CAD modeling software.
    • Knowledge of control systems design and advanced electrical design principles.
  • Core Competencies:
    • Strong problem-solving skills with an analytical mindset.
    • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
    • Motivated self-starter with high initiative and ability to work independently.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work effectively within a team-oriented environment.
  • Additional Skills:
    • Experience in research and development or manufacturing is considered an asset.
    • Ability to travel as required for this position (up to 15%).
