Who we are at Osmo:
Osmo is a digital olfaction company, on a mission to give computers a sense of smell to improve the health and wellbeing of human life. Why? Our sense of smell both enriches and saves lives, and has a deep and direct connection to our emotions and memory. This foundational understanding of smell's impact has directly informed the development of our latest innovation: Generation.
Generation is a new kind of fragrance house powered by Olfactory Intelligence (OI) to blend AI with world-class perfumery. It will help brands create emotionally resonant scents faster, more accessibly, and with greater creative clarity. Our technology allows us to explore vast scent possibilities, discover novel ingredients, and design fragrances informed by both data and artistry.
Beyond fragrance, Olfactory Intelligence has applications across industries including manufacturing, security, medicine, and more. We believe in the power of automation and thoughtfully applied AI/ML to solve problems beyond the reach of human intuition alone. Osmo is headquartered in New York, NY, with a new facility in New Jersey, and offices in Somerville, MA.
Osmo is seeking a Lab Associate to join our expanding Applied Research team. You will play a crucial role in supporting the data generation for Olfactory Intelligence. You are a quick learner, a good communicator, and detail oriented with experience in a laboratory setting. You are prepared to wear many hats across all dimensions of data collections including sample preparation, managing data contributors, and process optimization.
What will you be doing:
Own day-to-day data collection, ensuring smooth and efficient processes.
Manage and schedule internal and external data contributors.
Assist in organizing sample inventory, maintain accurate records, and ensure the availability of required materials for research and analysis.
Prepare samples and create mixtures and formulas, sometimes by operating liquid handling instruments.
Assist in packing and shipping tasks, ensuring that lab products are safely and correctly prepared for transportation.
Create an effective feedback loop between the sensory, algorithm, perfumery, and commercial.
What we need to see:
An undergraduate degree in science or engineering.
Experience in a high-throughput lab environment.
Strong organizational skills and attention to details.
Excellent communication across multi-disciplines and teamwork skills.
Hands-on experience with SQL/Python and its key libraries and frameworks.
Ability to come up with creative solutions to complex, ambiguous problems - you are excited about building things from scratch and are able to identify issues and execute quickly.
An action-oriented mindset that balances creative problem solving with the scrappiness to ultimately deliver results.
Ways to stand out from the crowd:
Knowledge of perfumery and fragrance ingredients.
Knowledge of psychophysics and human experiment design.
