Polygon Labs is a software development company building and developing a network of aggregated blockchains via the Agglayer, secured by Ethereum. As public infrastructure, the Agglayer will bring together user bases and liquidity for any connected chain, and leverage Ethereum as a settlement layer. Polygon Labs has also contributed to the core development of several widely-adopted scaling protocols and tools for launching blockchains, including Polygon PoS, Polygon zkEVM, and Polygon Miden, which is in development as well as Polygon CDK.
This role joins a strong legal team led by a long-time industry legal advisor, with support from other experienced Senior Counsel. We partner closely with business and product teams to navigate the evolving legal and regulatory landscape of blockchain technology. We advise on a wide range of issues, including corporate governance, commercial contracts, product development, regulatory compliance, employment, intellectual property, and dispute resolution. As stewards of responsible innovation, our legal team plays a critical role in ensuring that Polygon Labs continues to develop impactful technology while adhering to global legal standards.
As General Counsel, you will be a high-judgment legal leader, supporting Polygon Labs rapidly expanding global business. Reporting directly to the Chief Legal Officer, you will oversee a team of attorneys and lead critical legal initiatives spanning regulatory, strategic, and operational domains. This role requires deep expertise in navigating complex legal frameworks, particularly those relevant to web3, blockchain, and emerging technologies. You will shape and implement regulatory and policy strategies, manage high-priority and sensitive matters, and act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership. Lead and manage a team of attorneys working on strategic, high-impact projects across Polygon Labs
Provide legal counsel on regulatory matters, policy development, and sensitive corporate issues
Synthesize complex legal, technical, and business inputs to provide actionable guidance to executive leadership
Proactively identify legal and regulatory risks, and develop strategies to mitigate them in coordination with internal and external stakeholders
Support the negotiation and execution of strategic transactions and collaborations across the ecosystem
Stay current on legal and regulatory developments relevant to blockchain, including data privacy, intellectual property, digital assets, financial regulation, and the web3 industry
Collaborate with external counsel to ensure high-quality legal outcomes aligned with business objectives
J.D. degree from an accredited law school and admission to at least one U.S. state bar
8+ years of legal experience in a reputable law firm, in-house legal department
Demonstrated experience leading regulatory and policy-related legal work, particularly in blockchain, digital assets, or emerging technologies
Familiarity with financial regulatory regimes, including those involving the SEC, CFTC, and FINRA
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly advise executive and technical audiences
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment
Collaborative and solutions-oriented mindset, with excellent judgment and a high degree of professional integrity
A strategic thinker and self-starter who thrives in ambiguity and takes ownership of outcomes
