Senior Product Designer

Quartzy is seeking a talented Senior Product Designer to join us in shaping brand-new features for our web and mobile applications. You’ll have a chance to define and play a major part in growing our product organization as our rapidly growing company scales.

Quartzy is a 100% distributed team so this role is remote.

About You

You’re a designer who leads by connecting the dots between user insights and company goals. Not afraid to roll up your sleeves and dig deeper into user problems, you’re comfortable with designing and running user research to better define the problem beyond what customers are telling you. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and don’t back down from undefined requirements. You are excited to partner and collaborate closely with product management, engineering, and other stakeholders to deliver solid solutions that help customers achieve their intended tasks effortlessly. You consider the user experience in whole, from the moment they log in to the moment they finish their task.

Why Quartzy

Quartzy is the world’s #1 lab management platform. Every day, hundreds of thousands of scientists from all over the world improve the efficiency of their research by using Quartzy. Our software combines lab resource management and eCommerce, producing unique value in this large market, returning time to researchers who can focus on their next discoveries. Our customers range from wine makers, to food companies, to companies working on cancer  therapies. We are humbled every day to serve them.

What You’ll Do
  • Conduct user research in collaboration with product management
  • Take ownership of the full design lifecycle for new features and product improvements, from initial concept to implementation.
  • Create and iterate wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs that communicate functionality and intent effectively.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams in an agile environment, to design and build efficient solutions within technical and time constraints.
  • Articulate design decisions to stakeholders, highlighting benefits, tradeoffs, and impact on user experience, business objectives, and timelines.
  • Participate in design critiques to ensure high standards and consistency across Quartzy products.
  • Regularly use, improve, and contribute to Quartzy’s Design System.

What We're Looking For
  • 7+ years of product design experience
  • Prior product design experience of B2B SaaS products is a huge plus
  • A design stack expert: Fluency in Figma, Zeplin, Miro, or other design, collaboration, and prototyping tools. Ability to understand and/or write HTML / CSS is a nice bonus.
  • English Fluency: most of our teams and customers are based in the United States
  • The ability to work in a start-up environment: you work well in short design sprints and can be flexible with occasional shifts in priority
  • A strong understanding of design principles that include an affinity for consistency, color-use, typography, and a keen eye for subtle details, but an understanding of when to make trade-offs to ensure business targets are achieved.
  • Experience, or at least familiarity with, running user research campaigns that dig into user goals and points of friction
  • An exceptional communicator: you share your design thinking by stating upfront the design goals and user flows you are solving for. You can verbalize why certain choices were made and the pros/cons of any alternatives you considered.
  • An open mind: You take feedback without defensiveness and will incorporate others’ perspectives if they make sense.
  • A bias for action: you like to move quickly, and are always iterating on ideas.
  • An ownership mentality: you possess a natural tendency to take initiative and own projects. You feel accountable for the usability and customer experience of everything you design.

Does this sound like you? We'd love to hear from you.
