Role and Responsibilities

The Director of Mobile Business Strategy will drive strategic initiatives, develop data-driven insights, and influence decision-making to support revenue growth and operational excellence within Samsung’s Mobile business in the U.S., which include Mobile Phones, Tablets, PC’s, Wearables, Accessories businesses, etc. This role will focus on shaping long-term business strategies, optimizing performance, and enhancing go-to-market (GTM) execution across the mobile product portfolio. The Director will also collaborate with cross-functional leaders and senior executives to drive alignment and execute transformative initiatives.

Skills and Qualifications

Business Strategy

  • Framework Development: Develop scalable frameworks for investment quantification, competitive analysis, and forecasting to support data-driven decision-making across the organization
  • Set targets, identify gaps and opportunities, and assess the right set of strategic priorities and specific execution plans to achieve the targets both annually as well as for the mid-term. 
  • Identify and analyze the most critical trends, threats, disrupters and opportunities that Samsung will face, and map out a recommended framework and path for how to prepare for them.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with teams across marketing, product, finance, and global headquarters to align objectives, scale best practices, and ensure execution excellence
  • Lead coordination of quarterly Samsung Mobile Workshops between SEA and HQ organizations, during which operational and business performance is reviewed among executives. Offer strategic macroeconomic, operating and competitive context for the strategic issues to be discussed in order to facilitate expedient decision-making. Synthesize content across multiple functions to ensure a smooth and cohesive storyline across all sections for executive consumption.

Competitive Strategy:

  • The competitive strategy work stream requires the collection and cross-referencing of intelligence from publicly available and proprietary sources to inform and affect Samsung Mobile business strategy. This will require intense collaboration across internal cross-functional organizations as well as third parties. 
  • Lead scenario planning to head off expected competitor action and build contingency recommendations and plans based on various scenarios. 
  • Job will require formulation of clear action plans (e.g. GTM playbooks, tactical recommendations) backed by solid data analyses that can be communicated to top management and implemented through various relevant teams.
  • Requires knowledge and understanding of telecom / electronics industry and quantitative analytics skills to structure the problems and analyze situations objectively to make sound recommendations and plans.  
  • Requires substantial collaboration across various functions and stakeholders to gather intelligence and gain alignment to develop “real time” action recommendations to impact the business

Strategic Projects

  • Build holistic strategies and tactical plans to address major business issues, emerging risks or opportunities identified in the Samsung Mobile portfolio. Develop data-driven analyses to explain the risk or opportunity to executives, create a framework and strategic pillars to attack the issue, and gain approval with senior management, with input from the cross-functional working team. e.g. Switching Strategy, Sales Account growth strategy for key US Carriers etc.
  • Lead cross-functional project teams at the working level on strategic assignments from US top management team as well as HQ.
  • Manages category-specific initiatives (e.g. Mobile Enhancement growth project)
  • Job requires working across Samsung teams to both establish and communicate the strategy

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree with 12+ years of directly related experience, successful track record for growth and leadership is required; MBA or advanced degree highly preferred
  • 5+ years of experience within a consultative environment; product management, strategic sales & marketing management, business analytics, business planning and strategy development
  • 5+ years of experience in any one or more of these product portfolios: Smartphones, Tablets, PC, Wearables, smartwatches or related consumer electronic products 
  • Must be able to write, read, analyze, and interpret wireless technical product, marketing and financial materials.

  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with all assigned levels within and outside the company.
  • Plan, organize, and prioritize multiple assignments and projects.
  • Review detailed product development, marketing documents and media materials as needed.
  • Demonstrated competency in both oral and written communication modes for both internal and external personnel at various levels.
  • Work independently and in a team environment in order to achieve customer business objectives, personal and team goals and complete assignments within established time frames and specifications. 

The ability to develop tasks and work assignments, based on sometime vaguely defined objectives
